Job description

The Catholic Diocese of Richmond Pastoral Center is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician for the Office of Facilities. The Facilities Maintenance Technician provides daily upkeep and preventive maintenance on equipment, buildings, and grounds of the Pastoral Center to ensure a safe, attractive and productive work environment for all persons, including staff and visitors, and to extend the life and appearance of these items.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Receives and personally completes maintenance work order requests ensuring the delivery of excellent customer service, a safe work environment and a consistent diocesan image.
  • Prepares for and supports Pastoral Center activities, including meeting-room setup and breakdown. Provides Facilities coverage for evening meetings and events and responds to room setup, building access, safety, and other facility needs that arise during after-hours use.
  • Uses evening hours to independently complete projects that are difficult or disruptive to perform during the normal workday, including heavier/deeper cleaning, painting, drywall patching and repair, minor cosmetic repairs and touch-ups, and similar facility improvement work.
  • Walks the outside of the property daily to collect loose trash/debris, blow leaves, and in general terms, monitors the outside of the building and grounds. Removes snow and ice from sidewalks in front and on the sides of the Pastoral Center.
  • Moves, loads and unloads furniture, boxes, supplies, equipment and tools within and outside of the facility. Accepts deliveries to the facility on a daily basis, transporting same to desired location(s).
  • Performs custodial duties as needed, i.e., mopping floors, vacuuming, cleaning windows, stocking inventory, removing, and consolidating trash, etc.
  • Practices safe work habits and safety precautions when performing maintenance tasks and functions. Complies with all OSHA safety regulations.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools and material handling equipment to perform duties.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnoses/troubleshoots problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests and makes adjustments. Performs regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.
  • Ensures proper functioning of air conditioners, heat, lights, doors, locks, etc.
  • Performs various routine and preventative facility maintenance and repairs including carpentry, plumbing, trash disposal, electrical, painting, drywall repair, and other cosmetic maintenance and touch-ups based on skill level and experience.
  • Ensures completion of routine maintenance of the Diocesan vans & fleet.
  • Drives to the bank regularly to make deposits as requested.
  • Carries and delivers US postal service mail, federal express or UPS packages as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or needed by the Director.
