UPMC Presbyterian,a Magnet designated hospital, is currently hiring Full-Time Registered Nurses to support our Trauma Units!

About UPMC Presbyterian Trauma

Fast-paced units that see a diverse patient population with varying levels of acuity. Our trauma units are exceptionally collaborative amongst their staff and share a common philosophy around the value of teamwork, professionalism, and excellent patient care.

The Trauma Service Line at UPMC Presbyterian is a dynamic service supporting the hospital's Comprehensive Stroke Certification as well as the Level 1 Trauma designation. The units in this service line include: 7G, 9G, and 12D.

  • 7G Traumais a 13-bed surgical step-down unit with private rooms, serving general surgical patients as well as trauma and toxicological patients
  • 9G Traumais a 24-bed trauma and general surgical unit that also receives overflow orthopedic trauma and neurological trauma patients
  • 12D Traumais a 23-bed surgical unit serving general surgical patients as well as toxicological and trauma patients. In addition to the broad variety of post-op patients we care for, we also receive overflow vascular and medical patients.

The Professional Staff Nurse provides highly competent patient care and treatment while demonstrating empathy and a passion for learning. A role that requires independent judgment, fluent communication, and candid partnership, the Professional Staff Nurse establishes relationships with physicians, other care providers, patients, and patients' families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

The final job title and pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and candidate choice. Any required certifications and contributions based on job title will be afforded a timeframe to obtain. The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $37.00/hour.

Shifts/Hours:Our RNs work a rotating 12-hour scheduleto ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

Graduate Nurses must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role OR ability to start with TPP and must obtain license within fourmonthsof beginning position.Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education.

  • No experience required.BSN preferred.
  • Completion of UPMC student nurse internship or student clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred.
  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
  • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Good clinical judgment.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • 7G ONLY - ACLS required within 1 year of hire
