Department Summary

UNT Health is the academic clinical practice for the Health Science Center. Focused on improving health outcomes to build a healthier community. UNT Health primary and multispecialty care clinics are located on the UNT Health campus in Fort Worth. Our care teams extend to local hospitals, surgery centers, long-term and continuing care centers, and mobile and in-home care. UNT Health's interprofessional teams work collaboratively to achieve an optimized treatment plan tailored to the individual patient. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, specialized technicians, and nurses work together while intentionally integrating health care students, residents, and fellows to deliver care to our community.

Position Overview

UNT Health Center for Older Adults, WellMed Clinic, is seeking a compassionate Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team of healthcare providers at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. This role requires a candidate with strong organizational skills, a wide set of interests and skill set, and strong interpersonal communication abilities. Candidate must exhibit compassion, understanding, the ability to work well in teams, and the ability to function in a fast-paced environment is critical for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program and six (6) months of customer service experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Maintains and enhances clinical skills and knowledge on a regular basis; keeps up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise. Team Skills: Seeks opportunities to accept ideas and help from coworkers to accomplish work goals; ensures smooth transition of important patient care information from one caregiver or department to another; is willing to share credit; appreciates differences in personalities; shows empathy. Accuracy/Attention consistently produces thorough and timely work; attentive to details; asks questions to accurately document information and update records; shows concern for every aspect of the job; ensures excellent communication and follow-up. Respects the need for structured guidelines and protocols, demonstrates compliance with required standards. Customer Focus: continually searches for ways to provide value-added solutions to customers; understands and anticipates customers' needs when making decisions; takes responsibility for customer satisfaction and loyalty; solicits customer feedback to ensure satisfaction.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program required, three (3) years related experience in ambulatory care with older adults, NextGen experience, Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Medical Assistant certification and CPR (BLS) certification.

Job Duties

  • ย Measure patient vital signs as standard of care. Perform procedures, injections, and administer vaccines as ordered by the provider. All care documented in the electronic health record.ย 
  • Optimize patient scheduling by managing patient flow and providing access to care. Following standard Department workflows.ย 
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Clean and sterilize instruments and properly dispose of contaminated or expired medical supplies.ย 
  • Perform and process routine laboratory tests and sample analyses as ordered by provider.ย 
  • Thoroughly complete provider orders, referrals, and insurance authorizations to ensure timely delivery of care and provide patient with educational material.ย 
  • Deliver culturally competent care that respects each patients individual beliefs.ย 

Physical Requirements

  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.

  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
