Job description

Regions Hospital is hiring a friendly, organized, and adaptable individual to join the Float Pool! The Float Pool supplements the peaks in unit census above what the core unit staff can manage. Taking on the role as a Health Unit Coordinator means you will use your communication and critical-thinking skills to support the nursing staff and create a welcoming environment for patients and visitors. 

As a Health Unit Coordinator, you serve as the first person of contact on the unit and will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients and visitors through welcoming behaviors, effective communication, and information sharing. In addition to customer service, this position simultaneously performs clerical/receptionist functions on a patient unit which includes but are not limited to, organizing, and maintaining unit supplies necessary for daily activities, preparing and maintaining patient records, preforming data entry into the electronic system, acting as a resource to medical staff regarding hospital protocols and communicating between staff, patients, families, care providers, and between the unit and other hospital departments. This position works under the supervision of the nurse manager/ charge nurse. 

Work Schedule/FTE: This position is straight days at .6 FTE (48 hours per pay period) with the specific FTE discussed at the time of interview based on departmental needs. Weekend requirements will include a rotation of every third weekend, to be determined and discussed during the interview process to ensure alignment with unit needs and expectations.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred 
  • Previous experience with office procedures and equipment or recent education within one year with office procedures and equipment 
  • Computer experience and knowledge of medical terminology 
  • Previous customer service experience that included personal interactions both in person and on the phone, problem solving, and skill in balancing needs of guests and colleagues alike 
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education or experience in a health care field
