Job description

Unit Nutrition Assistant

Meritus Health is seeking a Unit Nutrition Assistant to join our Nutrition Services team. In this role, you will help deliver high-quality food service to patients by ensuring accurate meal selections, safe food handling, and excellent customer service. You will serve as a liaison between patients, dietitians, and foodservice staff to promote optimal nutrition care and maximize patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Retrieve, evaluate, and process diet orders/messages and communicate updates to Nutrition Services and Nursing staff.
  • Collect patient meal selections via in-person visits or phone calls, ensuring compliance with diet orders and patient preferences.
  • Process meal tickets/tally sheets and deliver trays to patients according to schedule.
  • Answer and direct phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Operate CBORD and Bedside menu entry systems accurately.
  • Practice safe food handling, storage, and infection control in compliance with departmental and regulatory standards (HACCP, TJC, MD Dept. of Health).

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: 1–2 years of food service experience preferred, particularly with modified diets and direct customer service. Clerical/typing ability preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced healthcare setting. Patient-focused and service-oriented.
