POSITION TITLE: Network Support Technician

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provide network installation and support of production networks in a LAN/WAN environment for Cummins Inc. North America. Follow established standards and procedures for best practices, enabling compliance with published and adopted security guidelines. Work with the CBS Network Operations group to resolve Network connectivity problems. Coordinate with vendor maintenance and support personnel when problems arise and facilitate problem resolution. Work with Network Operations leadership to identify and prioritize work. Work under the direction of the Global LAN Support Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and/or perform configuration, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of network equipment in MDF/IDF closets and data center.
  • Design, coordinate and/or perform installation, troubleshooting, and repair of data cabling in wiring IDF (intermediate distribution facilities) closets and MDF/data center.
  • Ensure network components, wiring and cabling methods, concepts, various applications and local building codes adhered to.
  • Off-Hours support for LAN related issues.
  • Technical aspects of LAN/WAN/Telecom hardware and software.
  • Support installation/configuration/troubleshooting of Cisco Catalyst LAN Switches.
  • Support installation/configuration/troubleshooting of Cisco Aironet Wireless Network Equipment.
  • Support moves/adds/changes of new network connections as required
  • Maintain network documentation
  • Available to travel for installation projects at other US and Canada locations. (Some possible)
  • Provide assistance in identifying and documenting processes and procedures.
  • Works well with Cummins exempt and contractor personnel on network issues and escalations.
  • Assist Network Operations with troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
  • Basic Digital Media Player configuration.
  • Perform wireless surveys at various customer sites.
  • RMA failed network equipment with vendor.
  • Ship network equipment to Cummins North America locations.

Skills considered a Must for the position:

  • Support installation/configuration/troubleshooting of Cisco IOS LAN Switches.
  • Understand all network components, wiring and cabling methods, concepts, various applications and local building codes that must be adhered to.
  • Working knowledge of 3K, 4K and 9K Cisco platforms, L2 & L3 configuration, IOS upgrade, and ROMMON.

degree in related field and at least two years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and train others.
