Job description

Position - UNION: Gas Controller

Number of Positions: 1

Location: CT - Milford - Oronoque Rd

Hourly Rate: $52.07 - $58.08

QUALIFICATIONS (minimum qualifications for assignment to this job):

Education: BS/BA

Degree Experience: Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 5 years of experience, or, Associate's degree and 8 years of experience, or High School diploma and 11 years of experience.

Purpose:

Ensure continuity of gas service by anticipating determining and directing fulfillment of quantity and pressure requirements in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. Directs field personnel to respond to abnormal operating conditions and/or equipment failures. Monitor gas SCADA system to ensure that safe and economical operating conditions are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate flow of natural gas throughout distribution system of public utility or pipeline to make sure volume and pressure of gas required to meet consumer demands.

  • Increase and decrease pressure in pipeline according to forecast and demand.

  • Review correlating data with variables affecting consumer demand, such as weather conditions, time of day, and forecast, to safely and efficiently operate the pipeline system and estimate customer aggregated demand by Operating Company.

  • Remotely control/operate pipeline valves.

  • Monitor and interface with the SCADA system; input updated values in system.

  • Monitor alarms and respond appropriately per Control Room management procedures. Dispatch and coordinate response with company field personnel and pipelines.

  • Monitor pressures and safety related conditions according to federal Department of Transportation regulations.

  • Interface with power generating stations, transport customers, and Company personnel to determine generation requirements. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports for management.

  • Maintain information on all large transport meters and input meter reads. Track and document orifice plate changes.

  • Monitor pipeline Electronic Bulletin Board (EBBs) for scheduled/nominated supplies, operation flow orders (OFOs), restrictions, and Net Pipeline Positions (NPP). Perform other tasks as appropriately assigned.

  • Advanced knowledge of gas sources and pipeline systems, significant pipeline and/or service dispatching experience preferred.

  • Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft products (Excel, Access, Outlook, and Power Point) and written records to present information to management.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written form and to effectively utilize current technologies.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work rotating shifts.

  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug tests (pre-employment and random), and driving record check.
