Undercover police officers are law enforcement professionals who assume false identities to investigate criminal activity without revealing their true identity as police. They often work on cases involving drug trafficking, organized crime, or other serious offenses where covert surveillance is necessary. By blending in with suspects or criminal groups, undercover officers gather evidence that would be difficult or impossible to obtain through standard policing methods.
