General Description
Peer Mentors are dedicated to helping students in the Great Start (GS) Program make a smooth transition from high school to college and promote their academic success in their first year at the University of Montevallo (UM). Peer Mentors meet regularly with mentees offering valuable information, connections to campus resources, and assist GS students in establishing a sense of community and belonging.
Peer Mentors are selected because of their leadership potential, academic record, and desire to help their fellow Falcons.

Essential Job Duties
• Complete the peer mentor orientation, training, and ongoing trainings
• Participate in the GS program class tours and pizza party event at the beginning of the fall semester to welcome new GS students
• Meet with mentees weekly, discussing the following topics: utilizing campus resources, study skills, time management, organizational skills, campus involvement, and stress management
• Maintain confidentiality with shared information
• Assist the GS Program Coordinator in planning social and educational events
- Attend campus events with mentees when possible
• Utilize the Group Me app in maintaining contact with mentees
• Commit to mentoring throughout the fall and spring semesters
• Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
• Sophomore, Junior, Senior and full-time student status at UM
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
• Must have and maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher
• Be self-motivated, friendly, and exhibit a positive attitude
• Desire to help students succeed
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills
• Comfortable leading a small group of 4-5 students
