Working Title
Music Therapist for NEA Research Labs Project
Details
Calling all local music therapists for an NEA Research Labs grant-funded opportunity with Tremble Clefs Iowa!

Tremble Clefs Iowa is a therapeutic singing group for individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD), their caregivers, and family members. We use vocal exercises, breathing techniques, preferred and familiar songs, and gentle seated rhythmic movement to improve common symptoms of PD.

The group runs on Mondays from 10:30-noon, and staff hours tend to be from 10:15-12:15. The sessions are held at the Iowa City Senior Center from Sept 14-Dec 14 (no session Thanksgiving week) and Feb 1-May 10 (no session spring break week). We also perform twice a semester at various locations in town. The performances are announced at the beginning of the semester, are during daytime hours, and are not required for members (but usually everyone tries to perform).

The music therapists will be asked to attend and participate (e.g., sing, move, learn, etc.) in the group, interact with members, provide feedback/recommendations to the facilitator, and attend and perform in the group at concerts if they fit into their schedule. The MTs are also asked to keep a weekly record/journal about their experiences with the group and provide feedback on training materials.

In return, the MTs receive $33/hour for 3 hours per week. The MTs will also have the option of being involved in products and publications resulting from the NEA experience. This funded opportunity can be renewed for a second year.

The music therapists must be board certified (MT-BC), have experience or interest in working with individuals with PD, be able to attend Monday in-person Tremble Clefs Iowa weekly sessions, and interest in developing therapeutic singing groups in their own communities.
