UAS Project Engineer

Job Description

Join our team at Strategic Sight Consulting LLC for an opportunity as an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Project Engineer experienced with test and integration of electromechanical components and subassemblies. The esteemed candidate will perform test operations on UAS and payloads according to customer requirements. You will be afforded the opportunity to demonstrate attention to detail, acute observation skills, analytical and mechanical skills as well as an understanding of good manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities and Background

  • Experience supporting DoD Programs, particularly in unmanned systems, robotics, or autonomous systems.
  • Experience with integration and test events in operational or field environments. Maintain and repair aircraft systems, document workflows, and recommend manufacturing process improvements.
  • Knowledge of software autonomy architectures, interoperability frameworks, or distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with configuration management processes, engineering change proposals, and technical reviews.
  • Interface between Project Management, design, and production team. Create timelines, estimate costs, and coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to keep projects on track.
  • Prepare technical reports, user manuals, and design specification for all stakeholders.
  • Interpret technical data, run feasibility studies, and apply new knowledge to improve existing system and processes.
  • Maintain paces with the rapidly evolving UAS commercial sector and identify new commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom components for test consideration.
  • Align, fit, and assemble component parts, using precision tools, calibrated hand tools, and power tools. Install electromechanical and electronic parts, using precision tools, calibrated hand tools, and power tools.

Requirements

  • United States citizenship.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain an SCI.
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Systems) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong mathematical and scientific foundations with hands-on experience using industry-specific design, simulation, or modeling software.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience inunmanned aerial systems or autonomous platforms.
  • Familiarity with flight controls, communications, power systems, avionics, or payload integration.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills. Demonstrate analytical abilities to diagnose issues in complex systems and devise effective corrective actions.
  • Develop system and subsystem-level requirements and define system and subsystem interface.
  • Ability to work within tight timelines with high-quality output.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present findings to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with team members.
  • Extreme attention to detail; takes pride in and ownership of work and can manage projects from concept through launch.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with commonly used open source and commercial software suites for hobbyist UAS, simulation, and engineering (Mission Planner, MATLAB, SolidWorks, Ansys, etc.)
  • Hands on aircraft or robotics experience such as FPV or RC aircraft, private pilot, experimental aircraft building, or flight test support.
