Job Details:

Plant Accounting Intern

Start your career at a Fortune 100 food company, inside the plant accounting team at Dakota City, our multi-billion dollar flagship beef complex. This isn't a coffee-run internship: you'll get real exposure to the financial mechanics that keep one of the largest beef operations in the country running, supporting cattle payments, payroll, and the yield and cost analysis that plant leadership uses to make daily decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support cattle procurement accounting: help process and reconcile daily cattle payments and settlements, verify weights and grades against contract terms, and help resolve payment discrepancies with the live cattle team
  • Assist with plant payroll: data entry, validation, and reconciliation for hourly and salaried team members
  • Support yield and costing analysis: help translate daily yield data into plant financial performance, tracking actual vs. standard yield and flagging cost variances
  • Help prepare weekly and monthly plant financial reporting and KPI packages for plant leadership
  • Apply problem-solving skills to research and resolve financial, payroll, and reporting discrepancies
  • Collaborate across live cattle, operations, HR, and plant leadership to support accurate, timely reporting

Program Highlights

  • Real Plant Finance Exposure: work directly with cattle payments, yield analysis, and plant reporting that drives decisions at one of Tyson's flagship facilities
  • A True Career Path: this is a year-round, paid role built as a bridge into full-time Plant Accounting/Controller roles at the plant and within the Tyson network.
  • Mentorship: work alongside the plant Controller and the Beef Operations Finance team
  • Competitive Paythroughout the program
  • Networking: development sessions with Tyson leaders across functions

Requirements

  • Incoming junior, senior, or graduate student with at least one semester remaining
  • Preferred majors: Accounting, Finance, Agribusiness, or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel required); SAP exposure a plus
  • Strong numerical aptitude, attention to detail, and willingness to learn plant operations
  • Available up to 20 hours/week during the school year, full-time during summer and school breaks
