Project Overview:

We are looking for top talent to join the expanding Bechtel Renewables & Clean Power business line to deliver the latest in our long-term portfolio of natural gas fired combined cycle power projects. This Project is a nominal 640MW single unit that will provide consistent electrical power to the regional grid. Bechtel is currently supporting our customer to define the scope and design basis for the Project which will utilize advanced gas turbine technology to deliver reliable and responsive electric power generation. The position will initially be based in the Reston, VA office (single status) to support preconstruction and project planning activities, followed by a longterm field assignment at the project site in Sullivan County, Indiana upon mobilization

Job Summary:

Provides technical leadership and coordination for all mechanical construction scopes including, gas turbines, rotating & static equipment installation, tanks, fin-fan coolers, and auxiliary mechanical systems. Responsible for construction work packaging, field engineering coordination, quantity tracking, technical issue resolution, inspection coordination, turnover support, and integration between construction, engineering, procurement, QA/QC, vendors, and commissioning teams. #LI-RM1

Major Responsibilities:

On a medium sized job, performs the duties of a lead engineer in either an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or as a Deputy Project Field Engineer, coordinating all activities related to the operation of assigned operating section

Leadership/Supervision

  • Proactively engages with their teams' development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback
  • Supervises a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline.

Work Planning & Packaging

  • Coordinates with design on constructability issues.

Material Management

  • Directs the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, and equipment.

Quantities

  • Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.

Safety / Quality Control

  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.

System Turnover Coordinator

For Direct Hire:

  • Possesses responsibility for coordinating between construction and startup to ensure the various system walkdowns are performed, interfacing with the startup specialist as required to support component/system turnover and assuming responsibility (as required) for area turnover coordination as determined by the PFE.

STR / Subcontract Coordinator

  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans
  • Supervises reviews of subcontractor submittals
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Large EPC industrial or power project field engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of mechanical construction methods and sequencing
  • Experience with piping systems, rotating equipment, and static equipment installation
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical drawings, specifications, and P&IDs Experience managing RFIs, redlines, as-builts, and technical queries
  • Understanding of welding, NDE, pressure testing, and turnover requirements
  • Experience coordinating inspections, testing, and turnover documentation
  • Strong interface coordination with construction, engineering, QA/QC, and vendors Familiarity with AWP, CWPs, IWPs, and workface planning preferred
  • Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving skills
