Job description

OBAYASHI CORPORATION is seeking a qualified candidate with experience in heavy civil and underground construction, including site work, utilities, excavation, TBM tunnels, SEM tunnels, drill & blast tunnels, mining, shafts, or underground structures work. This position is based in Menlo Park, CA, and will report to the Project Manager.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in the review of project plans and the development of project submittals and work plans.
  • Monitor and oversee field operations, including utilities, shaft, and tunnel excavation.
  • Perform field layout and measurement.
  • Track project quantities and monitor quality control.
  • Make a daily report and update/inform the team of ongoing progress and issues.
  • Provide managerial guidance to improve cost performance and to solve critical issues that may arise at the construction site.
  • Ensure that construction work is performed in accordance with our quality, technology, and safety standards.
  • Observe daily operation, find room to improve, and provide alternative solutions.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above, and other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction, or a related degree is required.
  • 0-5 years combined experience in project management or estimating in Tunneling or Civil Engineering.

SKILLS:
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Knowledge of heavy civil construction principles, with the ability to read plans and specifications.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to recognize discrepancies.

OTHER:
  • Work on-site full-time for 6 days/week
  • Ability to work night shift (6:00 PM - 6:00 AM)
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check to operate a company vehicle.
  • Ability to walk and work on outdoor construction sites.
  • Ability to carry and/or lift up to 40 lbs.

ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $100,000 USD / yr
