Job Summary
Morgan State University Acrobatics and Tumbling Assistant Coach is a full-time, 12-month position reporting directly to the head coach. The Assistant Coach will assist with all phases of coaching the intercollegiate acrobatics and tumbling team in accordance with NCATA, NCAA, and Morgan State University Athletics. The Assistant Acrobatics and Tumbling Coach will provide assistance with recruiting, game day management, organization management, community engagement, and
other program duties as assigned.
Job Duties
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist with providing positive guidance, skill instruction, and concepts to the Acrobatics & Tumbling student-athletes.
  • Assist with individual training sessions.
  • Monitor the study hall hours of the Acrobatics & Tumbling student-athletes.
  • Participate in planning meetings with the head coach to strategize and coordinate practices and competition activities.
  • Assist the head coach with promoting and monitoring the physical, emotional, and social well-being of the Acrobatics & Tumbling student-athletes.
  • Assist with recruiting quality student-athletes to maintain preferred squad size by means of personal contact and correspondence, evaluating ability in-person or by video, and on-campus visits all within MSU, NCAA, and NCATA rules.
  • Maintain a database of all prospective student-athletes including high school, junior college, and transfers.
  • Respond to all inquiries received within a reasonable timeframe, preferably 24 hours.
  • Build and maintain recruiting schedules.
  • Assist with all aspects of managing official and unofficial visits of prospective student-athletes,
  • including all associated documentation.
  • Assist the head coach in creating and cultivating professional relationships with the community to build sponsorship and other fundraising opportunities.
  • Assist the head coach in building and fostering relationships with local, regional, and national high schools.
  • Assist the head coach with coordinating in community service activities with MSU student
  • development staff and student-athletes.
  • Assist the head coach with planning and coordinating summer camps and clinics on the campus of MSU.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development opportunities that will translate to the growth of the Acrobatics & Tumbling program.
  • Ensure compliance and sound judgment with the University's Title IX and other MSU policies and procedures.
  • Manage MSU and student information confidentially and ethically.
  • Assist with the coordination and performance of competition day management as necessary.
  • Must be able to travel on an as-needed basis.
  • Perform other duties, including administrative, as assigned by the head coach, sports administrator and/or the Vice President & Director of Athletics or designee.

Requested Minimum Qualifications
Educational:
  • The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from an accredited College or University.

Experience:
  • At least one year of experience in competing and/or coaching Acrobatics & Tumbling at any level is required.

Other Preferences for Consideration
  • 5 years of Acrobatics & Tumbling coaching experience, experience coaching Acrobatics &

Tumbling at an NCAA Division I college athletics program.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who possess strong tumbling skills, planning, assessment and analysis, organizational skills, and experience coaching Acrobatics & Tumbling.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Candidates should be
  • Ability to provide instruction/feedback to student-athletes while standing, except during team breaks
  • Ability to lift, pull and push mats and other equipment used for Acrobatics & Tumbling
  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, squat and other movements associated with coaching an Acrobatics & Tumbling program
  • Ability to use a computer, laptop, telephone, mats, props, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skill in cultivating and maintaining relationships.
