Job Summary
The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Academic Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating academic support services that promote student success, retention, and degree completion. Working collaboratively with the Program Director, this position manages the tutoring component of the federally funded TRIO SSS program, providing academic support services for first-generation, low-income students, and students with disabilities.
The Academic Coordinator oversees the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of peer tutors; coordinates tutoring services; maintains program records; and supports student engagement initiatives in accordance with U.S. Department of Education TRIO program requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duty/Responsibility
Tutoring Program Management
- Develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate tutoring services based on the academic needs and learning styles of SSS participants.
- Assess student tutoring needs, coordinate tutor assignments, and monitor individual, group, and drop-in tutoring sessions.
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 60 peer tutors each semester.
- Develop and facilitate tutor training workshops, provide ongoing guidance and feedback, and ensure tutors meet program requirements.
- Coordinate with faculty, staff, academic departments, library personnel, bookstore staff, and other campus partners to support effective tutoring services.
- Maintain tutoring materials, textbooks, schedules, records, evaluations, and documentation required for program reporting.

Student Support and Program Services
- Review student grades, tutoring participation, and academic progress to evaluate effectiveness of services and identify additional support needs.
- Maintain accurate student records, databases, timekeeping documentation, evaluations, and program files.
- Provide data and reports related to tutoring services for institutional and U.S. Department of Education reporting requirements.
- Assist with recruitment, identification, and selection of SSS participants in accordance with federal guidelines.
- Participate in SSS orientation activities and student engagement initiatives.

Program Development and Outreach
- Collaborate with SSS staff to develop newsletters, communications, and outreach materials for students, faculty, staff, and program partners.
- Assist with planning and coordinating educational and cultural activities, including transportation, facilities, vendors, and student communications.
- Support additional TRIO SSS programming and initiatives as assigned by the Program Director.

Minimum Education
Bachelor's
Required Licenses/Certification
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Education, Social work, or a related field.

- Experience working with college students, particularly students who are academically underprepared or from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to provide effective support and guidance to students, staff, faculty, and families.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate programs and services.
- Experience training, supervising, and evaluating employees or student workers.
- Knowledge of student information systems, database management, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic communication tools.
- Ability to work independently while following established policies and procedures.
- Understanding of various learning styles and learning differences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with federal TRIO programs.
- Experience providing academic advising, tutoring coordination, student support services, or career/academic assessment.
- Knowledge of requirements and practices related to student success and completion of a bachelor's degree.
- Experience with personnel management, including hiring, interviewing, supervision, and evaluation.
