Job Description

We are looking for a Sr. Systems Capability Engineer to help us lead and manage the development and integration of our embedded AV/ADAS features. You will be responsible for defining and managing feature-level requirements and validation test development while working closely with software and hardware teams to ensure seamless integration of vehicle platform components. This role is highly collaborative, strategic, and technical, influencing platform roadmaps and long-term technical direction. The capability engineer is also a hands-on end to end capability owner that will test and ensure performance meets expectations in both the vehicle and simulation. This engineer will need to apply solid technical understanding, critical reasoning and a structured approach to solving problems within agile development that can allow for quick and fast-paced changes for the ADAS Pillar and have a hand in the early stages of GM`s next generation vehicles.
The ADAS DRIVE organization works closely with our software and hardware partners, we define, integrate, validate, and deliver cutting-edge solutions to all GM vehicle programs. Our seamless integration of software and hardware ensures innovative features that are safe, effective, and confidence-inspiring for our customers.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Participate with, or lead, multi-functional development team discussions with software teams, capability domains, Product management, program management and key partners to ensure alignment with peers and downstream customers
  • Analyze and negotiate requirements with internal and external stakeholders throughout product development and integration. Focus on Feature performance and lead technical solutions.
  • Be the hands-on end to end capability owner that will test and integrate System and Feature level capabilities utilizing simulation and vehicles.
  • Triage and analyze test data from simulation and vehicle testing to guide development prioritization and requirement refinement.
  • Test case formation responsible to enable a validation test plan that is traced back to the feature requirements.
  • Effective communication of issues and support the ability to solve problems and prioritize/balance workload as they arise
  • Apply solid technical understanding, critical reasoning and a structured approach to solving problems in both familiar and unfamiliar domains
  • Ability to handle agile development approach and quick, fast-paced changes that enable customers facing improvements.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies related to system integration and performance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation within the team.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical/engineering experience
  • Experience working with complex electro-mechanical systems, ideally within embedded systems, automotive, robotics, or related industries.
  • Comprehensive and in-depth technical understanding of ADAS features and behaviors.
  • Have a deep technical understanding of the software they are writing requirements for. Including the ability to easily read code and use it to root cause/triage problems during development.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities while meeting deliverables
  • Ability to identify problems, analyze varying courses of action, negotiate efficient solutions, and implement contingency plans
  • Strong ability to work with computer-based tools to collect and analyze data
  • High level of technical and non-technical communication skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Experience with the development of automotive safety or convenience features
  • Experience with ADAS systems
  • Hands on programming experience with Python or other shell scripting
  • Performance integration or validation background
  • Consistent record of processing large amount of information, identify multiple parameters, interdependencies and inconsistencies to provide both high-level systems overview and deep domain expertise
  • Virtualization/Simulation Development
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring engineers and leading technical projects.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.
The salary range for this role: is $129,000 to $198,400. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
