Job description

A Career at HARMAN
As a technology leader that is rapidly on the move, HARMAN is filled with people who are focused on making life better. Innovation, inclusivity and teamwork are a part of our DNA. When you add that to the challenges we take on and solve together, you'll discover that at HARMAN you can grow, make a difference and be proud of the work you do every day.
Introduction: A Career at HARMAN Automotive
We're a global, multi-disciplinary team that's putting the innovative power of technology to work and transforming tomorrow. At HARMAN Automotive, we give you the keys to fast-track your career.
  • Engineer audio systems and integrated technology platforms that augment the driving experience
  • Combine ingenuity, in-depth research, and a spirit of collaboration with design and engineering excellence
  • Advance in-vehicle infotainment, safety, efficiency, and enjoyment

About the Role
We are hiring a Principal EMI/EMC Simulation Engineer to build and lead an enterprise-grade virtual EMI/EMC capability that meaningfully reduces reliance on late-stage physical chamber design validation and accelerates first-time pass for complex automotive electronics. You will define the workflows, modeling standards, correlation methodology, and toolchains to deliver predictive CE/RE/BCI/RI outcomes with engineering-grade confidence. This role requires deep physics knowledge, pragmatic simplification skills, and strong cross-functional leadership across EE design, mechanical, systems, firmware, test labs, and suppliers.
What You Will Do
  • Own the virtual EMI/EMC roadmap: define the modeling architecture and V3 workflows for Conducted Emissions (CE), Radiated Emissions (RE), Conducted Immunity (BCI), and Radiated Immunity (RI) across product lines.
  • Build a scalable hybrid simulation workflow: partition problems across quasi-static extraction, PEEC/MTL cable modeling, full-wave 3D EM, and circuit co-simulation, choosing the right physics fidelity per frequency band and geometry scale.
  • Translate software operating modes into EM-realistic sources: develop mode libraries and convert them into calibrated per-rail current spectra/time waveforms and switching-node stimuli.
  • Lead correlation and validation campaigns: design correlation experiments and quantify model accuracy and establish acceptance criteria and model governance.
  • Establish cross-SBU modeling standards: mesh guidelines, uncertainty budgets, parameter sweeps/DOE, Monte Carlo plans; document best practices and train the broader team.
  • Provide actionable EMC guidance during architecture, schematic, layout, and mechanical integration to prevent issues before prototype builds.
  • Drive toolchain integration and automation in PLM, manage compute strategy.
  • Partner with test labs and suppliers: align virtual models with real fixtures; ensure vendor component models are fit for simulation.

What You Need to Be Successful
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in simulation engineering, with at least 3 years in EMI/EMC simulations for automotive electronics.
  • Deep EM fundamentals: expert-level understanding of Maxwell-based EM, and when to use full-wave vs special cases including coupling mechanisms, CM/DM conversion, resonance, radiation, and shielding effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading technical projects, preferably in regulated industries such as automotive, aerospace, or healthcare.
  • Experience working in cross-functional and global teams, driving alignment between technical and business objectives.
  • Tool proficiency with at least one major stack: Ansys AEDT or Siemens EDA
  • Solid understanding of automotive development processes and standards e.g., CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ASPICE.
  • Good leadership and communication skills: ability to guide teams, engage with executives, and translate technical concepts into business value.

Bonus Points if You Have
  • Experience simulating EMC at system/vehicle level (harness networks, multi-module coupling) and deploying design-to-validation workflows in production organizations.
  • Expertise in nonlinear EMC phenomena and co-simulation: TVS/ESD behavior, ferrite saturation, SMPS mode transitions, and mapping induced disturbances to software-defined functional criteria.
  • Experience building model libraries (connectors, CMCs, ferrites, absorbers), and post-processing tools that emulate compliance receivers (RBW/VBW, detectors).
  • HPC/GPU acceleration experience for EM workloads, and best practices for model version control, automation, and traceability

What Makes You Eligible
  • Fluency in English language, both spoken and written.
  • Willingness to travel domestic and international on a need basis (20%).
  • Willingness to relocate to your primary office location.

What We Offer
  • Flexible work environment, allowing for full-time remote work globally for positions that can be performed outside a HARMAN or customer location
  • Access to employee discounts on world-class Harman and Samsung products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, etc.)
  • Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University
  • Competitive wellness benefits
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • "Be Brilliant" employee recognition and rewards program
  • An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development
