Join SAPA Transmission and Help Power the Next Generation of Military Vehicles

SAPA Transmission is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer to join our team and support both internal development efforts and customer programs. This is an exciting opportunity to work hands-on with advanced transmission systems used in U.S. military tracked vehicles, testing them on our state-of-the-art Cross-Drive dynamometer facilities.

In this role, you'll be at the forefront of validating transmission performance, durability, and reliability—helping ensure our products meet the highest standards for mission-critical applications. Responsibilities
  • Execute comprehensive test plans for transmission systems used in U.S. military ground tracked vehicles.
  • Operate and monitor powertrain dynamometer test cells to evaluate performance, durability, and reliability of transmission systems.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret test data to assess system functionality and identify potential issues.
  • Understand and be able to troubleshoot typical instrumentation including thermocouples, flowmeters, and pressure transducers.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing test results, findings, and recommendations.
  • Conduct performance benchmarking and validation testing against military standards and customer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues during testing, collaborating with design and manufacturing teams for resolution.
  • Work closely with fellow test engineers and technicians in a collaborative environment.
  • Communicate test progress, results, and technical insights effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Assist customers with integrating transmissions into vehicle and dynamometer applications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Experience with dynamometers for testing engines or transmissions.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems - hardware/software (Dewesoft preferred).
  • Knowledge of CAN communication systems, including DBC file creation and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with cooling and fuel systems for powerpacks.
  • Good understanding of engine and transmission operation.
  • Proactive attitude towards work, teamwork and cooperation.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with customers.
  • Availability for occasional travel.
