Position Summary
Substitutes provide short term instructional support in the absence of the regular instructor. This role ensures continuity of instruction, maintains a safe and productive learning environment, and supports student engagement in classroom, laboratory, or shop settings within a career and technology education environment.
Essential Functions
  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the regular instructor or administration.
  • Supervise students in classroom, lab, or shop environments to ensure safety and appropriate conduct.
  • Maintain a structured learning environment that supports student engagement and participation.
  • Provide basic instructional guidance and assistance to students as needed.
  • Enforce school policies, procedures, and expectations for student behavior.
  • Monitor equipment, tools, and materials to ensure proper use and safe practices.
  • Communicate relevant information regarding student behavior, progress, or incidents to the appropriate staff member.
  • Complete attendance records and other required documentation.
  • Leave clear notes regarding activities completed and any issues that occurred during the assignment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.
  • Experience working with students or in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Career and technical background or industry experience is beneficial but not required.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout classroom, laboratory, or shop environments
  • Ability to supervise students and maintain awareness of safety conditions.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a variety of instructional environments including classrooms, labs, and career training shops. Exposure to equipment, tools, and instructional materials may occur depending on the program area.
Terms of Employment:
Temporary: On call as needed.
Salary: FY 27
$100 per day for non-certified teachers
$125 per day for certified teachers
$150.00 per day for Cosmetology (license requirements)
