At RWJBarnabas Health, in partnership with Rutgers Athletics, our Sports Nutritionists play a vital role in fueling championship performance. Operating within an elite, interdisciplinary sports performance and medical team, this specialist designs and executes world-class fueling, recovery, and performance nutrition strategies specifically for the Rutgers Football program. We view our nutrition specialists as a critical component of the student-athlete development plan, ensuring our players maintain a competitive edge in the Big Ten and NCAA. A Typical Day:

  • Managing nutrition services for the Rutgers Football program, encompassing practice logistics, gameday operations, recovery protocols, and travel nutrition planning.
  • Providing direct performance nutrition coaching to football student-athletes during training table meals and specific fueling opportunities.
  • Conducting nutrition screenings and objective body composition or sweat testing assessments to customize individual athlete fueling strategies.
  • Reviewing nutritional supplement permissibility under strict NCAA and Big Ten regulations while managing the safe distribution and tracking of supplements.
  • Translating sports nutrition research findings into applied, actionable advice for football coaches, sports performance staff, and student-athletes.
  • Delivering performance nutrition education lectures and presentations to student-athletes, coaches, and prospective recruits during campus visits.
  • Overseeing football nutrition operations, including inventory management, ordering, and food service quality compliance within the athletic facilities.
  • Supervising and scheduling the daily activities of sports nutrition students, interns, and program volunteers.
  • Collaborating with the sports health staff, strength and conditioning team, and physicians to optimize student-athlete performance and medical care tracking.

  • Required Baseline Skills: Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record; ability to routinely lift and move equipment or supplies up to 50 pounds.
  • Preferred Experience: One or more years of directly related professional experience working as a performance nutritionist within a collegiate, professional, or elite athletic setting.
  • Preferred Credentials: Registered Dietitian (RD) credential in good standing; Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) credential in good standing.
