Now Hiring: Transportation Safety Manager

Location: House Springs, MO

Pay Rate: Salary $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year

At First Student, our Location Safety Managers, oversee the safety program within a First Student location. The Safety Manager ensures compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local regulations to include company policy. They monitor proposed legislative initiatives for applicability to local operations. Safety Manager also provide safety oversight, day-to-day safety management, and overall safety support based upon company safety goals and targets. They are responsible to execute company safety pilots, programs, and initiatives that will deliver exemplary safety performance. Will coach and monitor location employees based upon safety key performance indicators and dashboard metrics/safety telematics. Position is expected to deploy best safety practices in conjunction with and guidance from the region safety manager and/or multi-site safety coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administers driver hiring and compliance process
  • Provides direction and guidance to location trainers
  • Investigates accidents, incidents, and work-related injuries and determines fault/probability
  • Prepares and submits accident-related compliance forms, maintains files, and enters in system
  • Provides assistance and training to drivers and attendants on passenger management and other safety related issues
  • Performs driver road checks of driver performance
  • Supervise employees with safety and/or driver hiring or training responsibilities
  • Provides various reports and analyzes safety trends

Qualifications/ Minimum Experience or Skills Required

  • 2-3 years transportation safety-related experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, higher education preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations regarding safety and environmental issues
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality
  • Possess working vehicle for travel in service area


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Incumbent must be able to move about the office and in the surrounding company facility outside the office (e.g., bus parking lot); utilize standard office equipment; access filing system/cabinets; and communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by telephone.
  • Must be able to drive company or personal vehicle to deliver training in multiple locations.
  • The job is performed under temperature extremes and low-level risk.
  • Physical demands include, but are not limited to, significant lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing, frequent stopping, kneeling and crouching.
