Benesch is a growing, multi-disciplined planning, engineering, and professional services firm. We enhance infrastructure and communities across the country – creating spaces and providing connections in ways that make a difference.

We pride ourselves on being nimble enough to remain responsive to client needs yet large enough to offer exceptional bench strength. At Benesch, we are looking for candidates with varied backgrounds and worldviews. We are committed to offering an inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and respected. Roadway Project Manager

At Benesch, we design the infrastructure that keeps communities connected and moving forward. As our North Carolina transportation practice continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Roadway Project Manager to help lead the delivery of transformative roadway, highway, and interstate projects across the region.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, high-performing team delivering critical transportation solutions for NCDOT, local municipalities, and private-sector clients — while helping shape the future growth of our transportation practice in North Carolina. Some of our current and most recent projects include:

  • NCDOT I-40 CMGC – Delivering complex, high-value improvements along one of the state's busiest corridors through innovative CMGC collaboration
  • Cary Pavement Projects - Supporting sustainable community growth through strategic pavement improvements that strengthen mobility and extend roadway life
Location

This full-time hybrid position is based out of our Raleigh office, with a flexible schedule that balances in-office collaboration and remote work.

The Leadership Influence You'll Have

This role offers more than project management responsibility — it provides the opportunity to influence how transportation infrastructure is planned and delivered across the region.

You'll work alongside division leadership and technical experts to help grow our transportation practice, shape client strategy, and position Benesch for long-term success in North Carolina's evolving infrastructure landscape.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain through reciprocity
  • 12+ years of progressive roadway, highway, and/or interstate design experience
  • Demonstrated success leading transportation projects through all phases of delivery
  • Strong project management skills, including scope, budget, schedule, and QA/QC oversight
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management abilities
Preferred Experience
  • Experience delivering projects for NCDOT
  • Familiarity with public-sector procurement and bidding processes
  • Business development and proposal leadership exposure
  • Experience mentoring technical staff and contributing to team growth

Why Benesch

It's simple. We invest in our people, not just our projects.

  • Career growth that's real with leadership development, training, and clear paths forward
  • Strong financial future with up to 9% retirement contribution for benefit-eligible employees
  • Flexibility that works with schedules that support your life
  • Time to recharge with generous paid time off and parental leave for benefit-eligible employees
  • Support beyond work through mentorship, hands-on experience, and opportunities to make an impact from day one

Whether you're starting your career or bringing years of experience, you'll have the support and exposure to grow here.
