Grower Direct Farms is a leading wholesale greenhouse operation based in Somers, CT, delivering high-quality plants to major retail partners across New England and parts of New York. We are seeking a Fleet Manager / Dispatcher to lead transportation, logistics, and delivery operations during both peak and off-season cycles.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring efficient routing, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery to retail locations while managing drivers, equipment, and logistics systems.

Position Summary

The Fleet Manager / Dispatcher oversees all transportation and logistics operations, coordinating deliveries across Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and parts of New York (excluding NYC). This role manages fleet assets, drivers, routing, and dock operations while leveraging technology platforms to optimize performance and cost.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation & Logistics Management

  • Plan, route, and manage delivery schedules across all service areas
  • Optimize routes and load efficiency using systems such as Samsara or similar fleet tracking software
  • Coordinate seasonal scaling, including rental equipment and third-party carriers
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, and Replenishment teams to meet customer delivery expectations

Fleet & Asset Oversight

  • Manage company transportation assets including trailers, trucks, shipping carts, and dock equipment
  • Oversee yard operations, trailer staging, and cart flow
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and emergency roadside support

Driver Management & Compliance

  • Recruit, onboard, and manage CDL drivers in compliance with DOT regulations
  • Maintain all required DOT records and ensure adherence to safety standards
  • Oversee participation in drug and alcohol testing programs
  • Track and approve driver and dock labor hours

Dock & Shipping Operations

  • Manage shipping dock operations, including personnel and workflow
  • Ensure proper loading accuracy, sequencing, and quality control of outbound shipments
  • Prepare and verify Bills of Lading, manifests, and delivery documentation
  • Coordinate paperwork flow for payroll and invoicing

Systems & Coordination

  • Utilize Samsara or similar logistics platforms for tracking, routing, and reporting
  • Work within internal systems (e.g., Avantalytics) for inventory, order flow, and execution (training provided)
  • Collaborate with Accounting (A/R & A/P) on delivery documentation and billing

Qualifications

  • Experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet operations required
  • Experience with Samsara or similar fleet management/tracking software strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to manage drivers, routing, and logistics in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and logistics systems
  • Ability to adapt to seasonal demands and extended schedules during peak periods
