Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, Transportation, The Market Transportation Manager is primarily responsible for the execution of the 24/7 operating plan and transportation processes. Responsible for supervision and building up the team of drivers and for ensuring deliveries are made in safe, efficient, and timely manner per our customer requirements while meeting the company safety, service, and financial goals. The MTM also assists with monitoring Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance and documentation and coordinates the tracking of all relevant information on drivers.
In this role you will…
• Directly manage the transportation staff and drivers, which includes training, coaching, performance management and problem resolution.
• With the Transportation Manager, General Operations, manage and maintain all equipment including preventative maintenance, sanitation and repair resulting in lower fleet expense.
• Develop, measure, and exceed market, customer, and company KPI’s ensuring that your team is fully aware and is reporting out no less than weekly on these KPI’s. Assists in scheduling and works in conjunction with Transportation Manager, Gen Ops/Director to minimize operating expenses, and to ensure all deliveries are efficiently routed.
• Expert knowledge of all transportation technology systems (Samsara and NetSuite), including training and coaching of all staff members.
• Manage and follow the E.O.S. operating model.
• Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, or budgets for increasing profits or improving services.
• Work with the Director of Health and Safety to manage and implement operations policies and standards, including safety procedures for the handling of goods.
• New customer implementation support.
• Establish and maintain relationships with customers gaining trust and respect.
• Participate in all investigations of all accidents and recommends corrective actions.
• Act as a mentor for all department employees and foster a positive work environment.
• Overall day-to-day administration of transportation and delivery functions, which may include calculating driver payroll, reviewing driver trip logs and expense reports, identifying and resolving problems, and ensuring that drivers are compliant with DOT regulations and FreshOne policies and procedures.
• Ensures drivers fulfill duties safely by monitoring vehicle safety, safe usage of ramps and equipment, seat and weight belt use, and safe lifting and product-handling practices.
• Ensures accurate completion of all delivery and driver-related paperwork including DOT logs, Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR).
• Ensures maintenance of all trucks, tractors and. trailers through daily reviews of pre- and post-trip inspections.
• Monitors driver practices to ensure key metrics (e, g. idle time) and acts as necessary to achieve targets.
• Periodically does announced or unannounced ride-a longs to ensure proper procedures are being followed, build relationships, and retrain where needed.
• Other projects or duties as assigned.
Core Skills/Background:
1. High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
2. 6 - 8 years transportation or related experience including knowledge of DOT and safety regulations, along with experience using fleet management systems (Samsara specifically preferred).
3. Experience directly supervising and managing administrative staff and drivers in the field.
4. Good leadership skills
5. Comfortable with technology and MS Office products, Asana and willing to learn new applications.
6. Flexibility to work in fast-paced environment, variable working hours both in office & field.
