The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly experienced SAP Transportation Management (TM) Event Management Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a large-scale Joint Transportation Management System (JTMS) implementation. This role will focus on the design, configuration, integration, testing, and adoption of transportation event management capabilities that provide end-to-end visibility into logistics movements, milestone execution, exceptions, alerts, and operational status.
You will work directly with government stakeholders, functional leads, technical teams, and integration partners to translate complex transportation execution requirements into SAP-enabled event management processes that improve visibility, control, auditability, and mission readiness within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment. This position requires an active Secret clearance. Candidates who do not currently hold a Secret clearance may be considered for company-sponsored processing, contingent upon contract requirements and client approval.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as the functional authority for SAP Transportation Management (TM) Event Management capabilities, advising on event capture, milestone tracking, exception handling, alerts, notifications, and process visibility.
• Translate business and operational requirements into functional specifications and solution designs aligned with SAP S/4HANA, SAP TM, and enterprise integration architecture.
• Guide design and configuration decisions across key event management areas such as transportation milestones, freight order and freight unit status tracking, event profiles, expected events, actual event reporting, exception monitoring, alerting, and visibility dashboards.
• Ensure alignment with integration points across SAP modules and related systems, including TM, EWM, MM, SD, GTS, master data, interfaces, reporting, and external carrier or logistics partner event feeds.
• Provide expert recommendations on process standardization, system utilization, data quality, governance, and organizational change impacts.
• Act as a trusted advisor by balancing mission requirements, operational constraints, technical feasibility, and SAP best practices.
• Lead the translation of current-state logistics visibility needs into structured requirements, user stories, business process flows, and functional design artifacts.
• Validate that configured event management solutions meet business requirements, operational scenarios, exception workflows, and reporting needs.
• Support deployment planning, data readiness, cutover activities, defect triage, user readiness, and transition to operations.
• Contribute to training materials, user guidance, standard operating procedures, process documentation, and operational playbooks.
• Identify adoption risks related to event quality, interface readiness, user behavior, and process ownership, and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Recommend enhancements based on operational data, user feedback, defect trends, and evolving mission needs.

Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive SAP, logistics, supply chain, transportation management, or enterprise systems experience, with at least 5 years focused on SAP TM and/or transportation event management capabilities.
• Demonstrated expertise supporting SAP TM implementations, enhancements, sustainment, or modernization efforts in large enterprise, federal, or DoD environments.
• Hands-on experience with transportation event tracking, milestones, status management, exception handling, alerts, notifications, visibility processes, and operational reporting.
• Experience translating operational requirements into functional designs, configuration guidance, integration requirements, test scenarios, and user-facing process documentation.
• Experience supporting end-to-end transportation processes across planning, execution, carrier coordination, freight order management, shipment visibility, settlement touchpoints, and exception resolution.
• Proven ability to support government stakeholders, compliance reviews, design reviews, requirements traceability, and regulated implementation environments.
Technical Skills:
• Advanced functional knowledge of SAP Transportation Management, including freight orders, freight units, transportation planning, execution, tracking, and integration touchpoints.
• Strong understanding of SAP event management concepts, including expected events, actual events, event handlers, milestone monitoring, exception management, alerting, and visibility reporting.
• Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA logistics processes and integration with related modules such as EWM, MM, SD, GTS, FI/CO, and master data governance.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio for analysis, documentation, process mapping, and stakeholder briefings.
• Experience with Jira, Solution Manager, Signavio, or similar tools for requirements management, process modeling, testing, and delivery tracking.
• Familiarity with data quality, auditability, traceability, role-based access, cybersecurity, and reporting requirements in DoD or federal environments.
