Job description

Job Purpose:
Our Senior Manager of Transportation Safety will be responsible for directing the transportation safety management process and providing overall support and guidance to the regional, area and local transportation operations organizations. The Manager coordinates with the Vice President, EHS as well as Fleet Management leadership in crafting short and long term strategies in building a culture of safety within the Transportation organization. The Manager introduces and oversees systems and activities to maintain oversight of regulatory compliance status; provides training and professional development for management and CMV operators; coordinates and manages the crash management process; conducts audits and inspections of the transportation safety management process; and monitors metrics and indices reflecting performance.
Reporting to the Vice President, EHS provides support, direction and guidance to regional transportation leadership across 5 regions including all BUs and locations in a multi-platform fleet comprised of private and outsourced drivers. The Manager interacts with and directly influences the behavior, performance and knowledge base of the private fleet CMV operators; and serves in a consulting role enabling regional, area and local managers to address safety & regulatory issues impacting the transportation operations organization.
Job Responsibilities:
• Monitor all Driver Qualification Files (DQF) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Partner with Talent Acquisition on the selection of new drivers and with site leaders to review qualifications of potential new temporary drivers.
• Review hours of service records for accuracy.
• Assure DOT drug / alcohol program is compliant with regulations.
• Work with the Fleet Management Team to ensure all required federal/state inspection and PM's are completed in the appropriate time frame.
• Complete the annual FMSCA Clearing House reporting.
• Review MVA files to ensure accuracy and documents needed.
• Review FMSCA Portal to ensure proper reporting and challenge any mis-reported DOT Reportable Incidents.
• Oversee the FMCSA Substance Abuse Program (SAP) monitoring program.
• Work with M&A Team and newly acquired companies/sites to ensure all drivers are current with all FMCSA/DOT regulatory requirements and moved over to the Veritiv system.
Additional Responsibilities & Qualifications:
  • Lead the MVA Committee to review MVAs and work with sites to put corrective action in place to address trends.
  • Partner with Risk Management to ensure all MVAs are investigated properly and provide driver documentation ae requested.
  • Support work area/site leadership and HRBP to assure proper accountability is delivered for preventable accidents.
  • Provide a comprehensive and accurate monthly report containing appropriate metrics (PVIR & DOT VIR).
  • Serve as company SME on Transportation Safety and work with regions/sites leaders to identify and address driver incidents/behaviors.
  • Conduct site visits to conduct ride-a-longs with drivers and coach/mentor transportation supervisors to improve driver performance and behaviors.
  • Promote defensive driving principles to all drivers on ride along and to Management.
