Job description

The Non-Emergent Medical Transport Technician (NEMT Tech) plays a vital role in safely and compassionately transporting patients who require medical supervision or mobility assistance but are not in an emergency condition. This includes gurney van and wheelchair transports to and from hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, clinics, dialysis centers, and private residences. The NEMT Tech ensures patient comfort, dignity, and safety while maintaining professional standards and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Safely transport patients in a non-emergency setting using company vehicles (wheelchair van or gurney van).
Assist patients in and out of vehicles, including those with mobility impairments.
Operate vehicle equipment including lifts, ramps, restraints, and oxygen as needed.
Maintain a compassionate and professional demeanor at all times.
Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, dispatch, and medical staff.
Ensure timely pick-ups and drop-offs while following assigned schedules and routes.
Perform and document vehicle inspections before and after each shift.
Maintain clean and stocked vehicles in accordance with company standards.
Accurately complete trip documentation and patient care records.
Report any concerns related to patient condition or vehicle safety promptly.
Adhere to all company policies, HIPAA regulations, and local/state transport guidelines.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid driver’s license for 2 years with clean driving record (DMV printout required).
Clean Drug and Alchohol test (pre-employment)
Previous experience in patient transport, caregiving, or EMS preferred.
Ability to lift and transfer patients using proper techniques and equipment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
Must pass background check, drug screening, and physical examination (as required).

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of stretchers, wheelchairs, and patients (up to 200 lbs with assistance).
Exposure to various weather conditions during transport.
Extended periods of driving or sitting.

Physical Requirements

  • Walk - frequently, up to 4 hours per day.
  • Run - infrequently, 1-2 minutes per day.
  • Stand - frequently, up to 2 hours per day.
  • Sit - frequently, up to 8 hours per day.
  • Kneel - frequently, 10-15 times per day.
  • Bend - frequently, 10-15 times per day.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry 250 lbs. infrequently (1-3 times per shift)
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry 150 lbs. frequently (5-10 times per shift)
  • Must have ability to step up and/ or climb over obstacles.
  • Must be able to climb stairs while carrying up to 150 lbs.
