Overview

This role combines engineering expertise, field validation, and collaboration with asset management and maintenance teams to ensure continued reliability and safety of our client's transmission grid.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural engineering assessments of damaged, corroded, or deformed lattice steel towers and components.
  • Review and analyze inspection reports, photographs, and field measurements to determine structural capacity and fitness for service.
  • Conduct structural modeling, load assessments, and failure analysis using applicable tools and methods (e.g., STAAD, PLS-TOWER, or hand calcs).
  • Develop engineering recommendations for repair, reinforcement, or replacement of damaged tower components in accordance with SCE standards and CPUC GO-95.
  • Assist field inspectors and construction crews by providing technical guidance on-site as needed.
  • Review historical drawings, loading conditions, and modification records to evaluate structural performance and conformance.
  • Collaborate with civil, electrical, and transmission line engineers to ensure holistic and safe engineering solutions.
  • Participate in root cause failure analysis, engineering review boards, and lessons-learned activities.
  • Maintain clear, traceable engineering documentation and contribute to technical reports and work packages.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • 3-7 years of experience in structural analysis and design, preferably in utility or transmission structures.
  • Working knowledge of lattice steel tower behavior, load paths, wind and seismic loading, and corrosion impacts.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and codes: CPUC GO-95, ASCE, AISC, IEEE, NESC.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD, SAP2000, RISA, or equivalent).
  • Ability to interpret field inspection data, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Experience working with utilities, particularly SCE or within California.
  • Experience with PLS-TOWER, PLS-CADD, or transmission line structural modeling tools.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems, GIS platforms, and inspection programs.
  • Understanding of corrosion mitigation, fatigue, and aging infrastructure evaluation.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Salary range for this position is $90,000 - $130,000.  The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
