Energy Storage Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineering Manager
Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA) OR Houston, TX (HYBRID)
This an opportunity to join an industry leading renewable energy venture and IPP with strong private equity backing that is focused on the development/execution of dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. They are at the forefront of the industry, have accumulated over 8GW of projects in a relatively short period of time, and are currently in an accelerated expansion phase.
The Transmission, Interconnection, and Market Operations Teams is at the crux of the organization supporting Project Development, EPC, and Origination efforts for an organization taking on next generation challenges in the battery storage space. JOB OVERVIEWS:
1. Transmission Planning Engineering & Interconnection Manager
  • The Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineering Manager leads the development & implementation of strategic processes for project site evaluations in correlation with transmission capacity to ensure company projects are competitive
  • The Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineering Manager works with leadership and internal/external stakeholders to grow the company's portfolio through the identification of optimal interconnection points
  • The Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineering Manager leads/facilitates transmission power load flow studies, Locational Marginal Pricing (LMPs), and ISO/RTO system modelling (PSSE, PROMOD, UPLAN,TARA, PowerWorld...) initiatives
  • The Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineering Manager works with ISOs, RTOs, and utilities to ensure reliability and cost optimization during the interconnection process
  • The Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineering Manager works internally with the transmission market operations teams on hedging and FTR (Financial Transmission Rights) strategies
  • The Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineering Manager advises on risk based Interconnections assessments of the grid - transmission congestion, curtailment, and LMPs

2. Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning & Interconnection Engineer
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer facilitates transmission planning power flow studies, stability studies, and economic analysis utilizing PSS/E, PSCAD, ASPEN, MUST, TARA, PROMOD, Aurora, and/or PowerWorld
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer is heavily involved in renewable energy / battery storage interconnection application models
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer develops/supports/builds tools in Python, SQL, and/or MS Excel that automate the study process of analyzing output data flows from the model
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer evaluates the production and interconnection cost as well as strategies for curtailment and project optimization
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer monitors real-time energy pricing and market delivery options to support LMP, price forecasting, congestion predictions, and due diligence initiatives for commercial renewable energy / utility-scale battery storage transactions
  • The Mid-Sr. Transmission Planning Engineer supports renewable interconnection stakeholder (utilities, RTOs, ISOs..etc) and project management

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering preferably Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
  • Power flow modeling experience with PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, MUST, TARA, and/or PowerWorld
  • Exposure to economic transmission market planning and analysis - PROMOD, GridView, UPlan, or Plexos is a PLUS
  • Well versed transmission interconnection application management and LGIA processes
  • Understanding of electricity market policy and rules with respect to interconnection and transmission planning
  • Working knowledge of high voltage EPC systems including High Voltage Substation and Transmission line modifications /upgrades
  • Experience working with ISOs (independent system operator) and/or RTOs (regional transmission organization)
  • Working knowledge of Utility-scale renewable energy operations (Wind, Solar, Energy Storage, Battery Storage)
  • Solution driven "get it done" attitude, strong communication, and presentation skills
