The Role:
We currently have an opportunity to be an Engineering Group Manager leading a team of engineers responsible to execute an embedded Transmission system calibration, validation and controls release. This team works cross-functionally with product, systems, and program teams to ensure all pieces come together to successfully release quality products on time to support one of our revenue generating vehicles and paving the way for our future.
In this people leader role, as well as having responsibilities for specific areas of technology, you will help develop and lead strategic action plans to support business goals for our inclusive future as we create industry leading and exciting products. You will identify and lead staffing initiatives for a work team, conduct regularly scheduled group meetings, communicate GM policies and procedures, leadership and safety messages, and craft specific to function communication on vision and strategy.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
Leadership & People Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of calibration engineers and technical leaders, fostering a culture of accountability, technical excellence, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear goals, expectations, and development plans aligned with business priorities.
  • Support performance management, succession planning, and technical capability growth.
  • Enable and drive your team to deliver products on-time with quality executions.

Calibration Delivery & Execution
  • Ensure delivery of robust engine or transmission controls solutions that meet regulatory, program, and customer requirements.
  • Drive execution excellence across planning, development, validation, and launch phases.
  • Manage priorities, risks, and tradeoffs to achieve quality and timing commitments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with hardware, software, emissions compliance, vehicle integration, manufacturing, and program teams to ensure robust system level requirements are met.
  • Represent calibration perspectives in technical reviews, program forums, and leadership discussions.
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical & Process Leadership
  • Promote common processes, standards, and best practices across teams and programs.
  • Provide technical guidance and decision-making support on controls, diagnostics and communication strategy, methods, and issue resolution.
  • Leverage data-driven decision making, modern calibration tools, and continuous improvement methods.

Business & Strategic Alignment
  • Align calibration work to broader organizational, regulatory, and product strategies.
  • Support long-term capability planning, workload balancing, and resource alignment.
  • Foster a culture of innovation that focuses on strategic opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and speed.
  • Establish and monitor budget for responsible activities.
  • Execute resource planning for required activities.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Automotive, or related field).
  • 8+ years of experience in engine powertrain calibration, controls, or related propulsion systems development.
  • Strong understanding of engine powertrain operation, emissions, diagnostics, and calibration development processes.
  • 3+ years of technical or people leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in a matrixed, fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support vehicle programs, calibration testing trips, or cross-site collaboration.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience leading calibration work across multiple vehicle programs or technical domains.
  • Knowledge of global emissions regulations and compliance processes.
  • Demonstrated success driving standardization, process improvement, or capability development.
  • Experience working with global or geographically distributed teams.

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate.
Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
