CONSTRUCTION SERVICES PRACTICE
Michael Baker International's Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators and safety experts. As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects.
What We're Looking For:
Michael Baker is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to lead high-profile transportation projects across Wisconsin. This position can sit in either Madison or Milwaukee. In this role, you'll be at the forefront of delivering complex highway, roadway, and bridge projects-partnering closely with WisDOT and local public agencies to ensure quality, safety, and compliance from mobilization through final delivery.
What You'll Do:
  • Lead and manage multiple civil and transportation construction projects throughout Wisconsin, serving as Project Construction Leader on WisDOT assignments
  • Provide technical guidance, leadership, and oversight to inspection staff and project teams
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while ensuring successful project delivery
  • Oversee contractor and subcontractor activities to ensure work complies with plans, specifications, and contract requirements
  • Review plans and specifications, identifying constructability issues and collaborating with clients and contractors on solutions
  • Track quantities, observe field work, and ensure accurate documentation for pay items and materials
  • Monitor and perform material testing (concrete, soils, aggregates), ensuring proper testing frequencies and compliance standards are met
  • Prepare detailed field documentation, electronic reports, and supporting calculations
  • Serve as a key contributor to business development, including proposal preparation and Letters of Interest for upcoming work
  • Support design-related efforts during non-field assignments, including constructability reviews and proposal support

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering and construction experience
  • Active Wisconsin Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Strong background working with WisDOT and Local Public Agency projects
  • Proficiency in roadway design software, CAD platforms (MicroStation and AutoCAD), and Microsoft Office
  • Deep understanding of construction materials, methods, and testing procedures

Compensation:
The approximate compensation range for this position is $110,000 - $167,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
