Tax Technology and Transformation provide services to help companies address the challenges posed by existing and emerging technologies, particularly the increasing data burden, by enhancing efficiency and transforming tax functions into cost‑effective operations. The aim is to assist businesses in navigating the digital landscape of tax transparency, compliance, and audit methods while tackling pressing challenges. Key offerings include:

Additionally, services encompass tax technology program mobilization, custom application development, strategy road mapping, implementation of indirect tax systems, post‑transaction operational services, and assessments of tax functions. Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced SAP ERP Tax Implementation Manager to join our Tax Technology and Transformation Team, focused on Indirect Tax. In this role, you’ll lead and deliver enterprise tax automation solutions by integrating SAP ERP (ECC and S4) with leading third‑party tax engines or using native SAP tax functionality. You’ll work directly with US‑based clients, acting as a trusted advisor and technical subject matter expert across complex SAP tax implementations.

Your key responsibilities
  • Help client tax departments operate at peak efficiency and productivity and better position them to take advantage of tax saving opportunities that might otherwise go undetected.
  • Transfer control of tax decision‑making from the transaction processing personnel and outside vendors to the tax specialists within our client's tax department.
  • Understand how to define the solution, coordinate the necessary technical resources, and deliver a finished product that fulfills the client's goals and tax requirements, including:
    • Implementing automated indirect tax calculation and compliance solutions.
    • Configure and support indirect tax integration in SAP using external tax engine or native SAP across Finance (R2R), Order‑to‑Cash (O2C) and procure‑to‑Pay (P2P) processes.
    • Design and develop customizations in SAP‑based integrations with third‑party tax engines (Vertex, Thomson Reuters, Sovos, etc.) based on customer requirements.
    • Analyze client’s SAP tax requirements and provide innovative solutions based on industry experience and best practices.
    • Supporting the development of data analytics solutions focused on indirect tax.
    • Supporting the implementation of global digital tax reporting solutions.
    • Lead requirements gathering and design workshops focused on tax automation in SAP using native tax functionality or SAP ERP integrations with external tax engines.
    • Manage day‑to‑day project interactions and updates with clients and EY US tax teams.
    • Create and execute unit, system, and integration test cases.
    • Troubleshoot complex SAP integration and production issues, including log analysis.
    • Support production cutover and post‑go‑live activities.
    • Provide regular status updates and technical guidance to project leadership.
Skills and attributes for success To qualify for this role, you must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science or Engineering and approximately 6 years of related work experience in indirect tax process improvement experience or equivalent experience in business or industry; or a master’s degree and approximately 4 years of related work experience preferred.
  • 6+ years of overall experience with SAP ERP technologies (ECC and S4).
  • 5+ years hands‑on techno functional experience with SAP ERP modules (R2R, O2C and P2P).
  • Approved technical certification.
  • Proven experience integrating SAP ERP with third‑party tax engines.
  • Experience supporting or implementing VAT and transaction tax solutions.
  • Familiarity with SOAP and REST APIs (SOAP UI, Postman).
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with US‑based clients.
  • Work on high‑impact enterprise tax and ERP transformation projects.
  • Indirect tax (Sales/Use Tax, VAT) experience and/or corporate indirect tax compliance experience preferred.
  • Excellent managerial, leadership, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Relevant experience in one or more of the following specialty areas: indirect tax software products such as Vertex, ONESOURCE.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise tax processes and automation.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 40%.
Ideally, you will have
  • Experience with Java, XML, or enterprise integration technologies.
  • Experience in configuring Third‑party tax engines like ONESOURCE or Vertex.
  • SAP ABAP with hands‑on experience in development of RICEFW objects.
  • Experience in integrating third‑party invoicing tools like Ariba/Coupa/VIM with SAP ERP.
  • Exposure to infrastructure or performance tuning concepts.
  • SAP certifications.
Benefits
  • We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $142,600 to $261,500. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $171,200 to $297,200. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
  • Join us in our team‑led and leader‑enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
  • Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
