Headquartered in McLean, VA, By Light supports defense, civilian, and commercial IT customers worldwide. 


Our By Light Implementation team, the premier provider of innovative Information Technology (IT) services and communications support to the Department of Defense and Federal Agencies is growing. We’re increasing our team to support the US Army Comprehensive Modernization (COMPMOD).  The program includes conducting survey and design, engineer, furnish, install, secure, and test (EFIS&T) solutions to include non-secure internet protocol router (NIPR), secure internet protocol router (SIPR), Wi-Fi, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Inside Plant (ISP), Outside Plant (OSP), and Voice Modernization at  U.S. Army Base/Post/Camp/Station (B/P/C/S) across the Continental United States (CONUS).  

We are seeking a highly motivated Training Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in enhancing the competencies of our customer and employees by developing and delivering training programs that align with our company’s core values. You will be responsible for conducting training needs assessments, designing engaging curriculum and learning materials, and overseeing all aspects of training interventions. As a Training Specialist, you will collaborate with various stakeholders to identify training gaps and develop targeted solutions to address them. You will also be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of training programs and making necessary adjustments to ensure continuous improvement.

To excel in this role, you should have a strong passion for learning and development, excellent instructional design skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and engage with customers and employees at all levels. Your creativity, attention to detail, and organizational abilities will be critical in delivering impactful and meaningful training initiatives.


  • Identify training needs by evaluating strengths and weaknesses
  • Translate requirements into trainings that will enhance government understanding of improved systems
  • Build training program and prepare teaching plans
  • Develop or oversee the production of classroom handouts, instructional materials, aids and manuals
  • Direct structured learning experiences and monitor their quality results
  • Acclimate new government personnel and employees to the contract at hand and conduct orientation sessions
  • Deliver training courses
  • Assess training effectiveness to ensure incorporation of taught skills and techniques into customer and employees work behavior
  • Periodically evaluate ongoing programs to ensure that they reflect any changes
  • Stay abreast of the new trends and tools
  • Create instructor materials (course outlines, background material, instructional materials, and training aids).
  • Collaborate with content developers to create course-related objects like networks and frameworks for the PCTE platform.
  • Facilitate engaging instruction in virtual, in-person, or hybrid formats.
  • Apply effective classroom management techniques to enhance student engagement and comprehension.
  • Track training conducted and student progress and prepare detailed progress reports.
  • Continuously evaluate and hone technical instructional delivery skills and provide mentorship when needed
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training to meet client needs and applications.
  • Manage the training program in accordance with customer business needs.

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Education, Training, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in technical instruction, with an emphasis on computer networking and cybersecurity. Strong understanding of computer networking principles, including TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS, firewalls, and LAN/WAN configurations.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain an IAT Level II or III certification within 6 months.
  • Proven experience in designing multiple training events in a corporate or government setting with regards to IT and networks
  • Extensive knowledge in instructional design theory and learning principles
  • Adequate knowledge of learning management software
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods, tools and techniques
  • Ability to conduct cost-benefit analysis and calculate training ROI
  • Sound decision making and organizational skills
  • Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences
  • Proficiency in MS Office and in database software
  • Strong communication skills – the ability to translate technical topics to non-technical audiences and the ability to provide analysis of complex issues in easily understood ways. Extensive experience with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel are important.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and an ability to work with others through difficult situations.
  • Familiarity with IT operations, VMware vSphere or NSX, Microsoft Active Directory, Linux, Atlassian Jira/Confluence, Puppet or Ansible, and networking technologies.
  • Proven ability to deliver technical training programs.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong preference for previous experience in teaching/instructing material on PCTE.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ certification or other active DoD 8570 IAT Level II or III certification, strongly preferred.
  • DevOps experience.

  • Minimum Secret Clearance required; Top Secret preferred
  • Willing to travel up to 50% or more as needed
