Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for onboarding and training employees in the Research & Development department. Facilitates development of laboratory-based training plans and curricula for existing employees, and for new hires to ensure smooth transition into their new roles.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinates new hire and existing employee training plans.
• Manages scheduling of training tasks and coordinates with the various R&D trainers to ensure new hires are trained in a timely fashion.
• Updates and supplements training opportunities as the department priorities and skill requirements change.
• Analyzes existing training requirements and content and makes recommendations for updates.
o Ensures consistency in training curricula across departments and with the company.
o Coordinates with Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Control for review of new training curricula.
• Tracks training attendance and trainee performance. Provides feedback to supervisors.
• Maintains training records. Generates and distributes weekly training reports to team managers.
• Conducts training sessions and assists employees through the training process.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in scientific field or relevant work experience.
o A degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or related field is preferred
• Minimum 2 years of training management experience
• Experience working in a laboratory setting
• Experience with Biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of general laboratory terminology, proper laboratory equipment handling practice, and safe work practices.
• Solid organizational and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to coordinate tasks and manage indirect resources.
• Logical problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to organize and move tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, identify and advocate for continuous improvement.
• Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to multi-task and balance multiple projects and priorities.
• Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.
o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines for project completion
o Ability to interact professionally at multiple levels within a client-oriented organization
• Familiarity with MS Office and standard productivity tools.
• Demonstrated propensity to be creative, collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated in the execution and completion of assigned tasks.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• While performing the duties of this job, the individual will be frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
• There are aspects of this position that may require an individual to work at heights above four (4) feet and move/lift up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Standard biology laboratory environment with chemical and biological reagents up to BSL-2.
• May be asked to work and train in labs handling pathogens or select agents.
COMPENSATION SUMMARY
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $67,900. to $101,000. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
