JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose

This is a professional sales position responsible for closing intercompany penetration opportunities and growing new business within category, with the expectation of achieving assigned business goals while enhancing the customer experience. This will be accomplished through collaborating with cross sectional team players to increase product knowledge education and capturing and maintaining key business opportunities. Specialists will prioritize time, targets, and team selling efforts based on market insights and data analytics to sell the protein category to direct or indirect customers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute targeted category sales strategies to achieve company and individual annual business goals, delivering profitable sales growth and penetration for the Specialty protein category.

  • Provide customer solutions from within our defined category assortment with the emphasis on prioritizing Sysco Specialty brand along with relevant specialty company offerings

  • Utilize data analytics to prioritize category opportunities

  • Actively seek, qualify, and action top penetration opportunities

  • Be informed of market and industry conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales; share information with customers as part of value-added services provided

  • Track activities and results collaborate on opportunities, and champion the team selling process by working with key stakeholders within the assigned region.

  • Presents and designs educational content for internal and external food shows, workshops, virtual and in-person, acting as a subject matter expert and ambassador for Specialty products and solutions

  • Leverage sampling in a solutions-oriented manner to close sales

  • Provide feedback to the Sales team, Operations, Merchandising and Management on product quality, product integrity, product mix, customer satisfaction, perceived value and competition

  • Develop and maintain value-based relationships with customers, chefs and intercompany stakeholders

  • Support execution of prioritized sales strategies through direct selling and engagement of customers and prospects

  • Follow-up on all communications and commitments resulting from customer meetings

  • Responsible for compliance with all Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) comprising Sysco's Food Safety Program, specific for the assigned role.

  • Assist Food Safety Program Manager in ensuring compliance to Sysco's Food Safety Program that leads to compliance with third party certification and customer requirements.

  • Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their Supervisor.

  • Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

  • 3+ years' experience in a Sales or Marketing role such as Inside and/or Outside Sales, or relevant industry experience in either the foodservice or distribution industry

  • Culinary experience or training is an asset

  • French language an asset

  • Completion of post-secondary education or equivalent experience

  • CPSA designation is preferred

  • Solid analytical problem-solving skills, including familiarity with analyzing reports and deriving insights from data

  • Ability to express information in terms of profit and loss, food cost and expense ratio

  • Flexible; readily accepts change; open to new ideas

  • Strong communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with internal and external teams

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver against deadlines and produce high-quality results (accuracy, thoroughness in the deliverables they are producing)

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to execute multiple initiatives at the same time

  • Demonstrate a high level of business acumen and interpersonal savvy

  • Demonstrated experience with building trust with a prospective customer and securing new business

  • Demonstrated skills in the area of consultative selling, networking and negotiations

  • Proactive, self-directed, with the ability to structure a weekly schedule to be successful

  • Understanding of marketing principles, product lines, ordering procedures and Sysco's credit terms

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Valid driver's license with access to a vehicle may be required (some ad-hoc travel)

Education

Bachelor's degree in related discipline or an additional 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
