Experienced Bookkeeper – QuickBooks Online

Location: Bakersfield, CA
Schedule: Monday through Friday, daytime hours

A growing local bookkeeping firm is seeking an experienced and dependable Bookkeeper to support a diverse portfolio of business and nonprofit clients. This position is ideal for someone who is highly skilled in QuickBooks Online, enjoys solving accounting discrepancies, and can independently review, clean up, and maintain accurate financial records.

The selected candidate will initially provide coverage during an employee’s maternity leave. Due to the company’s continued growth, there is strong potential for the position to become long-term.

This is not an entry-level bookkeeping position. The ideal candidate should already understand general bookkeeping processes and be able to contribute with minimal training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage bookkeeping activities for multiple client accounts.
  • Review, maintain, and clean up financial records in QuickBooks Online.
  • Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Identify duplicate, missing, misclassified, or incorrect transactions.
  • Research discrepancies and independently determine appropriate corrections.
  • Review balance sheets and ensure accounts are accurately reconciled.
  • Complete month-end bookkeeping and assist with closing the books.
  • Categorize income and expenses accurately.
  • Maintain vendor and customer information.
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Prepare clean and accurate financial records for CPAs and tax preparers.
  • Track time spent working on each client account or project.
  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding missing information or bookkeeping questions.
  • Assist with sales tax filings and other bookkeeping-related reporting when needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive client and financial information.

Qualifications

  • Previous professional bookkeeping experience is required.
  • Strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online is required.
  • Experience managing or supporting books for multiple businesses or clients is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of bank reconciliations, balance sheets, general ledgers, and month-end closing procedures.
  • Ability to identify bookkeeping errors and determine how to correct them.
  • Experience cleaning up disorganized or inaccurate QuickBooks files is highly preferred.
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable experience.
  • Sales tax filing experience is preferred.
  • Comfortable researching solutions and utilizing available resources.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Professional, dependable, positive, and team-oriented.
  • Strong commitment to client service.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative and does not need step-by-step instructions for every task. This person should be able to review a client’s books, recognize when something does not look right, research the issue, and work toward an accurate solution.

The company is looking for someone who genuinely cares about clients, takes pride in producing clean and accurate work, and can adapt to different businesses and bookkeeping needs.

Experience working with nonprofits, construction, agriculture, real estate, professional services, or other small businesses is a plus.
