About Grand Junction Regional Center:
Grand Junction Regional Center (GJRC) is a collection of group homes that serves adult individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who need additional support to stabilize and return to community residential settings. GJRC's focus is on improving outcomes for individuals with IDD as well as promoting community integration. GJRC has a total of 10 homes nestled throughout established neighborhoods of Grand Valley. These homes feature warm, comfortable living spaces and private, fenced backyards with recreation equipment.

About the Position:
Health Care Service Trainee positions give hands-on direct care to our clients who are individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These positions exist to provide quality health care, personal hygiene maintenance, achievement of personal outcomes, and a therapeutic milieu in a home-like environment for up to 12 individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness.
Duties in this role include:
  • Receive and understand training provided in areas such as nursing skills, medication administration, intellectual and developmental disability theory and practice, human growth and development, behavior management, and supports and services
  • Support individuals by the implementation of behavior programs and positive redirection techniques
  • Communicate with individuals who are elderly or have impaired physical capacity
  • Provide Infection Control, Safety, and emergency procedures
  • Prevent and report abuse and/or neglect
  • Apply knowledge and techniques in residential areas of providing care and instruction in daily activities, including meal preparation, eating; bathing, personal hygiene; social skills; recreation activities; housekeeping and laundry; safety and transportation, all with a training approach to ensure personal outcomes
  • Apply knowledge and techniques when provided a posting of duties, and safely provide daily activities during a specified time frame
  • Apply knowledge in implementing assigned individualized supports and services for people including behavior, social, recreation, work, and specialized therapies
This position is 100% In-Person: You are required to work at your assigned work location during your scheduled work times. This position follows a rotating two-week schedule: Week 1 consists of 3 days on / 4 days off; Week 2 consists of 4 days on / 3 days off. Shifts are 12 hours in duration and may be 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. (day shift) or 7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. (night shift). Specific shift assignment will be determined upon hire based on program needs.Please note: Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

  • Motor Vehicle Check, if the employee will drive a state-owned vehicle, either in an ongoing capacity while performing their normal day-to-day job duties, OR on occasion for training/meetings/client visits/etc.
  • Must possess a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver's License or a non-restricted U.S. Driver's License for positions within 30 miles of the CO state border
  • Out-of-State Driver's License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver's License within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Travel - Drive state car, van, or bussette to various group homes, programming, admin & in community
  • TB test is required, requires Influenza and other vaccines as required by state and facility; must be 18 years or older.
  • Pre-employment Physical/Tests - Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:
    1. Disclose that information on the application.
    2. Explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify you from the current position.

CDHS Selection Process Explanation
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
