If you are an ENGINEERING professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an opening for you! Based at our Sidney, OH location, you will work with a global team on the cutting-edge software to control variable speed compressors to optimize the system performance, end user experience, and minimize the energy consumption.
AS A LEAD POWER ELECTRONICS SOFTWARE ENGINEER YOU WILL:
  • Generate embedded software for variable speed motor control drives
  • Utilize software revision control tools like git
  • Keep up with software documentation including software requirement documents and software detailed design documents
  • Assist in agency approval process
  • Develop and document test procedures for engineering and manufacturing tests of variable frequency drives
  • Own and complete software DFMEA for variable speed motor control drives
  • Validate software with compressors under normal test conditions and abnormal test conditions and generate reports
  • Work with local and global software team and hardware team to get assigned tasks completed.
  • Provide technical support to other teams in Copeland and external customers as required

SCHEDULE:
This role is hybrid eligible with the requirement to be in office at least three days per week. Colleagues are expected to demonstrate a collaboration first mindset, which is the understanding that teams will work together in-person and colleagues should be flexible to adjust their hybrid days based on business needs. You will have an opportunity to work with your team and leader to determine when you should be in office to drive meaningful connections and to best serve our customers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field
  • 5+ years of software development experience, with at least one (1) year of experience with embedded C language in motor control systems
  • At least one year of experience with software development cycle from requirement to code generation, to verification and documentation
  • At least one year of experience with software revision control in GIT
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in team based new product development environment

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field
  • 5 years of relevant software development experience in motor control, especially permanent magnet motor control and sensorless control
  • Extensive knowledge of power electronics topologies and their control
  • Experience with Matlab / Simulink code generation tool chain or hardware in the loop simulation
  • Experience with software DFMEA
  • Experience with agency testing e.g. UL
  • Understanding of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration systems / industries
  • Experience with automotive, commercial vehicle, or off-road electronics
  • Strong technical project management competencies and problem-solving skills
  • Ownership mindset for the tasks assigned
