Job description

Job Title: Power Electronics Engineer
Job Description
The Power Electronics Engineer designs, develops, and supports high-frequency, high-power electronic power conversion products used across multiple vehicle platforms. This role works closely with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver efficient, compliant, and reliable power solutions for both new designs and existing products. The engineer contributes throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and circuit design through testing, optimization, and ongoing technical support.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop new high-frequency, high-power electronic power conversion products in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Provide technical support for existing and legacy power electronics products, including troubleshooting and performance improvements.
  • Create detailed hardware specifications, circuit designs, theories of operation, and component selections based on defined design requirements.
  • Collaborate with PCB and Mechanical Engineers on product and power stage designs with a focus on efficiency, EMI containment, and thermal management.
  • Partner with Software Engineers to define power stage control and protection strategies that ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Review test results with Product Development Engineers and support the resolution of non-compliance issues related to performance, safety, or standards.
  • Support component selection and redesign efforts when legacy components become obsolete or approach end-of-life, ensuring continuity of supply and performance.
  • Manage multiple projects and shifting priorities effectively while maintaining high engineering standards and meeting project timelines.
  • Use circuit simulation and thermal analysis tools to validate designs and guide design decisions.
  • Contribute to the design and development of custom magnetics for power conversion applications.
  • Provide input on PCB design and layout to support robust power electronics performance and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to support product introduction, test, and ongoing production issues.
  • Participate in design reviews and documentation activities to ensure clear communication across engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Travel occasionally as needed to support projects, customers, or manufacturing sites.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience designing high-frequency, high-power electronic power conversion products.
  • Experience with LV DC-DC converters, HV DC-DC converters, DC-AC converters, and motor drive systems for vehicle applications.
  • Hands-on experience with resonant conversion and soft-switched topologies.
  • Experience designing custom magnetics for power conversion applications.
  • Proficiency with circuit simulation tools, such as LTspice, for analyzing power electronics circuits.
  • Proficiency with thermal analysis for power electronics designs.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics, power systems, and electrical hardware design.
  • Experience in electrical design and power supply design for high-frequency applications.
  • Familiarity with high-frequency power conversion topologies.
  • Experience collaborating on PCB design, including understanding of PCB design considerations for power electronics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with high-voltage products in the range of approximately 700 V to 2 kV.
  • Experience working with high-current products in the range of approximately 10 A to 600 A.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as SAE, ISO, and UL for power electronics and vehicle applications.
  • Exposure to mobile industrial markets, including hybrid, battery electric, and fuel cell electric vehicles.
  • Familiarity with Altium PCB design software for schematic creation and markup.
  • Experience addressing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and implementing EMI containment strategies.
  • Experience with thermal management techniques for high-power electronic systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams that include mechanical, software, PCB, and manufacturing engineers.
Work Environment
The role operates in a combination of office and manufacturing environments. In the office setting, the engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams, performs design work, and uses simulation and design tools. In the manufacturing environment, the engineer may be exposed to chemicals, dust, paint, and noise while supporting product builds, testing, and troubleshooting. Use of protective clothing and equipment may be required in certain areas to ensure safety while working around production processes and equipment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
Company has dental, medical, vision, 401k and some positions are bonus eligible.
