Job description

THE POSITION As a PennDOT CDL Operator with the Department of Transportation, you will enjoy an exciting career path with active, hands-on work. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will focus on skilled operation of construction and maintenance equipment while also carrying out important manual labor tasks that support highway and bridge upkeep. As a PennDOT CDL Operator, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Operation: Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned machinery License Compliance: Maintain required CDL credentials and complete all pre and post operation checks Traffic Control: Perform flagger duties when equipment is not in use Manual Labor Tasks: Use hand and motorized tools to clean culverts, cut vegetation, repair guiderails, and support maintenance needs Safety Practices: Follow safety training, report hazards, and work to maintain a safe environment Equipment Care: Make minor repairs, assist mechanics, and keep accurate equipment records Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders and two additional pieces of construction equipment within the probationary period.
