Job description

Sony Pictures Television is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Director, Production Accounting to support and oversee production accounting management of television productions across a variety of formats including comedy, reality, game shows, animation, and lower-to-mid budget scripted productions.
This role will oversee day-to-day production accounting operations while partnering closely with Production Finance, Production Executives, Line Producers, UPMs, and freelance accounting teams to support efficient and compliant production workflows.
The Director will manage accounting operations through all phases of production, including prep, production, post-production, and wrap, while ensuring accurate reporting, operational consistency, and adherence to studio policies and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Manage financial operations and production accounting support for assigned productions.
  • Partner with production teams to support budgeting, cost reporting, payroll, accounts payable, and cash flow management.
  • Oversee prep, production, post, and wrap accounting workflows across assigned shows.
  • Supervise and mentor production accountants, assistants, payroll accountants, and freelance accounting personnel.
  • Coordinate onboarding and management of prep/wrap accountants and freelance accounting staff.
  • Ensure compliance with studio accounting policies, labor obligations, and reporting requirements.
  • Identify operational risks, reporting issues, labor concerns, or communication breakdowns early and drive resolution.
  • Support production accounting system setup and management across Smart Accounting, PSL, Vista, and payroll systems.
  • Monitor and review cost reports, reporting packages, and accounting deliverables for accuracy.
  • Liaise with Production Finance Ops, FP&A, BA, Billing/OTC, Tax Incentives, Audit, Treasury, and Labor Relations teams.
  • Support production audits, incentive reviews, and wrap processes.
  • Assist with workflow improvements and training initiatives.

Technical Skills
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office experience.
  • Working knowledge of Smart Accounting, PSL, Vista, EP, Cast & Crew, and related production accounting systems.
  • SAP experience required.

Basic Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree required.
  • 7+ years of television and/or film production accounting experience.
  • Experience supporting scripted, unscripted, reality, game, comedy, or animation productions.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $149,600-$187,000. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
