Job description

THE POSITION Are you interested in a challenging and fulfilling career in transportation planning. The Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is currently looking for a motivated and analytical individual to join their team as Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will be provided with 12 months of on-the-job training focused on traffic data systems, reporting, and analysis. You will support the Statewide Traffic Analysis unit as you learn to apply technical tools and review important transportation information.

As a Transportation Planning Specialist Trainee, you will perform the following duties: System Learning: Develop knowledge of applications including, but not limited to Traffic Data System, Traffic Monitoring System, and Traffic Data Upload System (TDUS). Data Validation: Review and verify traffic count data supplied by internal staff and external partners Map and Report Work: Use Traffic Data System and related tools to generate maps, produce reports, and prepare traffic count program packets Data Processing: Maintain weekly count data through TDUS and review Roadway Management System error reports Volume Mapping: Create and examine regional and county traffic volume maps each year Information Support: Research and complete traffic information requests and update spreadsheets for reporting Interested in learning more. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Travel may be required. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time.

In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, planning, computer science, or geography; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
