Reports To:        VP & GM, Avondale Terminal Services   

Supervises:        Customer Support Team, Scale House Team, Inventory Control Specialist(s)

 

Avondale Terminal Services has become integral to HOST’s continued efforts of shifting the transportation paradigm and rethinking how cargo moves – providing exceptional service and solutions to our customers.

Position Summary: The Traffic Manager is the direct link between our customer and HOST operations staff as well as transportation providers (UP Railroad / barge lines / vessel operators / truckers) and vendors.  The successful candidate will be personable, knowledgeable and customer service focused.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Oversee, develop, and support the Customer Service Representatives, and the teams of Customer Service Representatives and Scale Clerks and Inventory specialists
  • Ensure that the teams utilize the Host systems and processes and provide ongoing feedback for continuous improvement 
    • Cooperate with the Systems Manager to ensure that continuous improvement which involves HOST systems and programs gets implemented
  • Lead the day-to-day communication and coordination between the HOST logistics team and:
    • HOST operations 
    • Customers 
    • Transportation services providers
    • Vendors and other third parties involved with logistics and traffic 
  • Cooperate closely with the Marine & Traffic Scheduler for optimal coordination and communication between terminal and marine related activities 
  • Coordinate terminal audits
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by management 

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in transportation management.
  • Oracle/NetSuite experience a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel  
  • Innovative and creative self-starter, with the ability to devise solutions to complex problems, and to implement those solutions hands-on.
  • Flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture, and comfortable operating in a limited-resource environment.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills, excellent interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.
