Job description

As a valued member of our team, the Logistics and Transportation Supervisor will lead and coordinate all aspects of fleet supply, maintenance, and operations to maintain optimal inventory levels and control costs. You will analyze performance and financial data to drive productivity improvements and implement process enhancements across production, maintenance, and distribution. Overseeing and mentoring staff, you will ensure compliance with safety, DOT, and OSHA standards while fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate with Big Rock dispatch daily for operational updates; provide remote support as needed.
  • Log in and prepare delivery schedules for cement and need-based orders; prioritize critical cement deliveries.
  • Monitor early morning driver departures from the yard, ensuring safe, organized vehicle movement.
  • Support field traffic logistics, including repositioning trucks to prevent congestion or potential hazards.
  • Review daily plant inventory and verify beginning/end-of-day stock; resolve discrepancies with plant managers or batch personnel.
  • Collect, organize, and review driversโ€™ paperwork from multiple sites for completeness and policy compliance, forward to payroll.
  • Ensure drivers are equipped with required documents and replenish stock as needed.
  • Monitor driver performance to verify adherence to production, quality, and safety standards.
  • Notify dispatch and maintenance teams of out-of-service vehicles and update on repair status.
  • Assist payroll in clarifying missing time entries or log discrepancies with drivers.
  • Stay informed on internal communications, email updates, and driver notes to maintain continuity.
  • Communicate major incidents, such as accidents or contamination, directly to leadership.
  • Liaise with plant managers regarding unloading delays, safety concerns, or schedule changes.
  • Lead orientation sessions for new hires (except for specified locations); manage document flow to HR and relevant departments.
  • Track and support repair progress for trucks listed as โ€œbroke down,โ€ ensuring timely resolution.
  • Conduct shift handovers with day-shift supervisors to ensure smooth operational transitions.
  • Act as liaison for conflict resolution involving MOS and third-party drivers (e.g., Talamantes, Baja Resources).
  • Conduct and document safety meetings with all drivers across shifts and locations (excluding designated exceptions).
  • Prepare, present, and document disciplinary actions for policy violations; collaborate with HR and management.
  • Visit ready-mix plants ahead of major pours to verify preparedness and storage capacity (e.g., ORCA pours).
  • Participate in candidate interviews in the absence of management.
  • Attend regular operational conference calls with logistics leadership and maintenance teams; communicate unit statuses to dispatch.

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.
  • Assist in maintaining preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental & safety requirements/standards, reporting and managing.
  • Manages safety training, policy, and procedures for area of responsibility.
  • Ensures all employees adhere and follow safety policies, rules, and regulations.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Hours of work may vary Monday through Friday and occasional weekends. Shift time and total hours worked may be adjusted/vary due to work demand and seasonal requirements. Overtime is mandatory when needed.

Travel Required: Less than 10% within Southern California.

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years plant experience in an aggregate, concrete, or construction environment.
  • 5+ years supervisory experience.
  • College Degree
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Current, unrestricted, California Class B license with tanker and airbrake endorsements.
