Job description

Alter Trading Company is looking for a Leader with experience in metal recycling who has the ability to inspire and motivate their team. This position will support both the Negaunee and Escanaba locations.

ABOUT US:

Alter Trading is looking to hire the next manager for lead its Negaunee and Escanaba, MI facilities. Alter Trading Corporation, a 127+ year old company, with 70+ scrap metal processing facilities throughout the Midwest and Southern region. Alter is committed to our customers by being the best source of both ferrous and non-ferrous metal and by giving great customer service.

ABOUT THE JOB:

Under the direction of the Regional Operations Manager, responsible for all activities including planning, maintenance, staffing, training and operation associated with the safe and efficient functioning of each facility.

  • Interacts with customers on a regular basis including processing transactions to maintain excellent relationships with both commercial and peddler customers.
  • Oversees ferrous, and non-ferrous departments
  • Supervises employees including hiring, coaching, discipline, and terminations as necessary
  • Ability to grade and price scrap; may issue payment to customers as needed
  • Maintains company safety and environmental objectives and standards; maintains ISO and OSHA compliance requirements
  • Supervises building and equipment maintenance and replacement needs
  • Manages cost and expenditures; takes action to meet or exceed budgeted targets for yard volume, net profit and ROI
  • Prepares and monitors annual budgets and monthly operating reports
  • Operates yard equipment, performs light equipment maintenance etc.
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned or directed.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Experience in the Recycled Metals (Scrap Metal) Industry, Strongly Preferred
  • Associate or Bachelorโ€™s degree in business, accounting, management or other related area, preferred
  • 5 years industry experience including supervisory experience.
  • Must have excellent open communication style to carry out ongoing dialogues in a way that creates trust and confidence within all levels of the company as well as with external vendors and customers.
  • Preferred Experience: Background in non-ferrous (NF) and ferrous metals, shredders, supervisory or leadership roles, inventory management, equipment operation, or operations/team lead/manager positions
  • Ability to travel occasionally to other facilities or customers as needed. Candidates must possess a valid driverโ€™s license.
