What is a town supervisor?

Town Supervisors are elected officials who serve as the chief executive officers of town governments. They are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the town, managing budgets, implementing policies set by the town board, and representing the town in various official functions. Town Supervisors often preside over board meetings, coordinate with other municipal authorities, and ensure that local services run efficiently. Their role is crucial in maintaining the smooth functioning and development of the community.

How does a town supervisor typically collaborate with other municipal departments and local officials?

A Town Supervisor frequently works alongside department heads, town board members, and local officials to set priorities, allocate budgets, and address community needs. Regular meetings and open communication are essential to ensure alignment on projects and services such as public works, safety, and planning. Building strong relationships with various stakeholders helps the Supervisor coordinate responses to challenges, manage resources effectively, and foster a cohesive team atmosphere. This collaborative approach is key to driving successful municipal initiatives and maintaining transparent local governance.

To thrive as a Town Supervisor, you need a strong background in public administration, budgeting, and local government operations, often supported by a relevant degree or significant municipal experience. Familiarity with municipal management software, budgeting tools, and compliance systems is typically required. Job description

TOWN ADMINISTRATOR

Nottingham, New Hampshire

The Town of Nottingham, NH (pop approx. 5100), is seeking an experienced professional to serve as its next Town Administrator. Nottingham is located in the southeast portion of the state within about 30 minutes of Manchester, Concord and the NH Seacoast. While only 45 minutes from the Lakes Region, Nottingham borders Pawtuckaway Lake with its own Town Beach and is home to the Pawtuckaway State Park and its many recreational opportunities. The UNH campus is about 10 miles away. Nottingham is rich in history and, despite modern growth, maintains a small-town atmosphere.

Working under the direction of a five-member Select Board under the SB2 form of government, the Town Administrator coordinates the delivery of a full array of town services and administers the day-to-day affairs of the Town. With a proposed FY operating budget of approximately $5.5 million, the Town has approximately 27 FT employees supplemented by another 40 PT employees. A bachelor’s degree in public administration or related field and five (5) years of supervisory/administrative experience in a municipal setting is preferred, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates an ability to be successful in the position will be considered.

Salary range to $130,000; starting salary commensurate with qualifications. Although this position is not currently in the New Hampshire Retirement System, the Town does offer excellent benefits. Nottingham is an equal opportunity employer.
