Transportation Project Engineer

We have a career opportunity for an experienced transportation engineer to be part of an established service line at Benesch focused on enhancing transportation infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have expertise or an interest in furthering their career focused on planning, engineering design, and construction of transportation infrastructure for public agencies. The successful candidate will prepare and review plans, technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates related to a variety of transportation projects. Project Engineers also mentor and supervise the work of technical support personnel assigned to the project.

Location

This position has the opportunity for a flexible hybrid work schedule with the option to sit out of our offices in Omaha, NE, Bellevue, NE, Lincoln, NE, or Grand Island, NE.

Key Projects Across Nebraska

Some examples of past and current projects that our Roadway team is working on:

Lincoln South Beltway: Benesch served as the lead consultant for the $352 million Lincoln South Beltway project in Nebraska, providing environmental assessment, design, geotechnical services, and construction support. The project completed Lincoln's circumferential transportation network, improving regional connectivity and reducing urban congestion through 43 miles of roadway, 23 bridges, and multiple interchanges.

US-81: This project is ongoing and will expand the corridor to a four-lane expressway between York and Columbus. Benesch is the lead consultant and responsible for providing roadway and bridge design.

US-26: This project is ongoing and will Focus on expanding the corridor to a four-lane expressway between Minatare and US-385. Benesch is the lead consultant and responsible for providing roadway, drainage, and bridge design.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Developing detailed designs of urban and rural roadways from preliminary to final design
  • Collaborating with team members, communities, and stakeholders to define data needs, project requirements, and outputs or to develop applications
  • Compiling and coordinating plans, specifications, cost estimates, and pay items
  • Supporting studies and alternative analysis to determine best solutions to meet compliance and client goals
  • Working with various disciplines and reviewers to ensure complete, accurate, and high quality deliverables
  • Contribute to proposal development
  • Managing small projects and project tasks and assisting Project Managers in overall large project delivery
  • Manage and maintain project documentation
What You Will Need
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, or higher, is required
  • Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain upon hire (preferred)
  • Project experience in transportation engineering design (preferred)
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment on challenging projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to develop task deliverables in a complete and timely manner
  • Experience working with Local and State public agency clients (Public Works, DOTs, etc.)
  • Proficient at using Microstation Open Roads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D design software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
