Job description

Overview


The Timber Frame Project Engineer/Manager maintains full ownership of the design, engineering, and execution of projects from project handoff to completion. This position works directly with the Timber Frame Division Manager, shop craftspeople, and various departments throughout the organization.


The role requires knowledge of how to bring a project from the design stage through completion while coordinating with multiple internal and external team members. The Project Engineer/Manager will be responsible for the creation of 3D fabrication models, 2D drawing packages, obtaining fabrication approvals, and ordering project materials. As the primary point of contact, this role also facilitates meetings with clients, architects, and general contractors.

Core Competencies

Contract & Estimate Management:

  • Understand the scope of work that has been sold.
  • Generate and maintain project milestones.
  • Maintain full ownership of the project budget relative to estimated (sold) costs.


Project Documentation:

  • Obtain pricing and place purchase orders to vendors.
  • Generate client invoices according to project milestones or as appropriate.
  • Track project changes and issue change orders to clients when appropriate.
  • Maintain project documentation for the above items in our ERP system (Acumatica).


Finish Samples Coordination (all prefinished wood products on a project):

  • Coordinate sample creation from the shop to satisfy client desire while understanding what was included in the estimating/contract.
  • Photo document samples into the job folder and populate Timber Finish spreadsheet.
  • Obtain client approvals.


3D Modeling, Design, & Technical Execution:

  • Create 3D project models and drawings for review with clients, architects, general contractors, and shop Project Champions.
  • Collaborate with subcontracted professional engineers to meet structural and aesthetic requirements.
  • Review fabrication drawings with clients and manage revisions until we have an approval to fabricate.
  • Perform occasional site visits for field measurements and 3D laser scanning; update models and drawings to match existing field conditions.


Material Procurement:

  • Secure approvals to order project specific materials, obtain quotes and place purchase orders. Maintain full oversight of order status and delivery timelines. Examples include:
    • Timber
    • T&G
    • Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)
    • Custom and off the shelf steel products
  • Inspect custom steel parts upon delivery to ensure fabrication is accurate and acceptable.


Field & Shop Coordination:

  • Technical communication with timber frame shop on joinery expectations and installation requirements throughout the course of the project.
  • Coordinate field and logistics requirements with timber frame shop lead/Project Champion.
  • Maintain communication with project team to provide scheduling updates.
  • Raising/Safety equipment and shipping logistics to the site.


Software & Skills:

  • Strong communication skills including in person meetings, video meetings, phone calls, and emails.
  • High precision in detailing joinery to ensure seamless fabrication and assembly during raising.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of construction and interpreting architectural design drawings.

For Pay Transparency: Compensation Description (annually or hourly): Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.
