What is a tiger?

Tigers are large, carnivorous mammals belonging to the genus Panthera and are known for their distinctive orange coats with black stripes. As apex predators, they primarily inhabit forests, grasslands, and wetlands in parts of Asia. Tigers play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems by controlling prey populations. Sadly, they are currently an endangered species due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect tigers and their habitats.

What are some common challenges faced by zookeepers who care for tigers, and how are these addressed in daily work?

Zookeepers responsible for tigers often face challenges such as ensuring the safety of both staff and animals, providing appropriate enrichment to prevent boredom, and monitoring the health of these large predators. Daily routines typically include carefully structured feeding schedules, maintenance of secure enclosures, and regular behavioral observation. Collaboration with veterinarians and other animal care staff is essential for addressing any health or behavioral issues promptly and maintaining high standards of animal welfare.
